Funeral Mass for Nancy Lee Kurkowski, 59, of Grenville, South Dakota will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Tony Dummer celebrant. Organist will be Cindy Marohl and Song Leader Sandi Jaspers. Pallbearers will be Robert Rumpza, Steve Rumpza, Paul Stapleton, Josh Dargatz, Joel Kemnitz, and Don Trautner. Honorary Pallbearers will be All of Nancy's Friends. Interment will be in the Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay, SD. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Cahill Funeral Chapel and from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with a 7:00 P.M. Scripture Service. There will be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Wednesday. Nancy was born on May 26, 1951 at Sisseton, South Dakota to Jesse and LaVera (Hamman) Lorenson. She attended Kusciusko Township Country School #201. After her education she helped her father on the family farm and took care of her father. She married Benedict Kurkowski on September 9, 1976 at St Joseph Catholic Church, Grenville, SD. She helped her husband farm and cleaned cabins and private homes at Pickeral Lake and Enemy Swim Lake. She liked driving her B John Deere raking hay with her husband. She attended Bible Study at the lake. She like to attend auction sales and entertain friends at their place. She was a member of St. Peter's Alter Society. She was always willing to lend a hand to anyone. Nancy passed away at the Strand Kjorsvig Nursing Home at Roslyn, SD after a short battle with cancer.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Benedict Kurkowski of Grenville, SD; one sister-in-law, Jean Kurkowski; 3 aunts, 2 uncles, numerous cousins and dear friends along the lake.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, maternal and paternal grandparents.
