Funeral Service for Myron Glen Williams-Tohocoka, Hokshina Ohitika, 77, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Kateri Hall, Sisseton, SD with Senior Catechist John Cloud III,  JC Crawford and Dave Flute officiating. Pall Bearers will be Sidney Williams, Ernest Keeble Jr., Aaron Williams, Ashten Williams, Kamden Barse, Samuel Tohocoka, Craig Spider, Dustin Spider, Harley Spider, Alex Spider, Travis Spider and Terry Spider.  Honorary Pall Bearers will be Jessa Glynn, Shaylene Keeble, Halie Williams, Hannah Williams, 1963 SHS Basketball Team, All Military Veterans and All of his casino friends. Interment will be in the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Veterans Cemetery, Sisseton, SD with Military rites by the Kit Fox Society.  There will be an all night Wake Service on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Kateri Hall.  The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Myron G. Williams-Tohocoka was born on May 10th, 1946, to Geraldine Williams and Clifford Broken Leg Sr. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Estella and Sam T. Williams in Sisseton, SD. Myron graduated from Sisseton High School in 1964. He was an outstanding athlete, earning his letter and setting school records in track, football and basketball. His most accomplished accolade was being a part of the legendary 1963 Boys Basketball Team for the Sisseton Redmen and their State Championship title. Myron enlisted in the Army in September 1965. He was later wounded in Vietnam on November 6th, 1967, when the 25th Division was engaged in battle with the Viet Cong at Loc Ninh. Myron had his right leg amputated and his left leg was severely injured. However, these injuries never set Myron back from living his life to the fullest despite suffering from PTSD. Myron had devoted his life to helping all military personnel in anything they needed and was very active in advocating for the benefits of all veterans.  Myron was awarded the Purple Heart on November 7th, 1967, and also during his military service received the following medals National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 bronze service star, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/1960 device, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal, First Class Unit Citation Badge, Marksman Qualification Badge w/machine gun bar, and Expert Badge w/rifle bar.   Myron was retired with Permanent Disability from the United States Army on September 23rd, 1968.  Myron had attended college at Northern State University and later graduated from the University of Morris with his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. He had begun his advocacy for our Tribal members and started getting involved with the Tribe serving on various boards and committees. He would be elected in the SWO Tribal Council for the Buffalo Lake District, serving 3 separate terms in 1979-1980, 1983-1984 and 2003-2006.  He was a member of the Red Feather Society, which consisted of 12 Native American Veterans from across the country.   Myron always put his family first. He was the best dad and grandpa. He always made sure to attend every sporting event, birthday party, holidays and any other family events with his children and grandchildren.  Myron passed away on November 5, 2023 at the VA Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota surrounded by his family.

Myron is survived by his children, Shawn LaBatte, Tina Williams, Heather Williams, Samuel Tohocoka and Hannah Tohocoka; eight siblings Lola Spider, Lavonne Spider, Maurice Spider, Clifford Broken Leg Jr., Amy Broken Leg, Bernadette Broken Leg, Margaret Broken Leg and Ardella Williams; grandchildren, Sidney Williams, Shaylene Keeble, Ernest Keeble Jr., Jessa Glynn, Kamden Barse, Aaron  Williams, Ashten Williams, Halie Williams, and Hannah Williams; great grandchildren, Tayahmya Keeble, Tallulah Keeble, Kaisen Keeble, Nailayah Williams, Amira Barse, Isabella Renville, and Daylen Williams.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents Clifford Broken Leg Sr. and Geraldine Williams; Maternal grandparents Estella and Samuel Williams; brother Earl Spider, Daniel Spider, Rodney Spider, Scott Tohocoka; sisters Alfreda Spider, infant sister Lola Spider and Infant sister Bonita Spider; great grandson Sebastian Williams.
