Celebration of Life Service for Moses D. Gill, III, 35 of Watertown, South Dakota will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 6:00 P.M. followed by an all night Wake at the Enemy Swim District Center, Enemy Swim, South Dakota with Dennis Gill Sr. officiating. Drum Group will be Toka Nuwan. Pallbearers will be Andrew Owen, Joshua Max, Aden Roth, Thacher Roth, Skylar Long, Abrien Gill, Quincy Gill, Johnavon Royal.  Honorary Pall Bearers will be the Staff from Mavericks of Watertown, the Staff from Minervas of Yankton, the Staff from Dakota Sioux Casino, David Waipa, MaMa Waipa, Zoey Gill, Kylie Benavidez, Nora Max, Savanna Gill, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, South Dakota id in charge of funeral arrangements.

Moses was and will forever be 35 years old. He resided in Watertown, SD. It was Wednesday June 7, 2023, when the relatives came to get him to take him somewhere much more beautiful with no more pain and suffering. As he began his journey at his home he was surrounded by a houseful of family, his partner, his mom and dad, his brothers and sisters, his nieces and nephews, his aunts and uncles, cousins and many friends. His cousin sang his going home song and his mother called out his Dakota name Mah'piya Ota, Mah'piya Ota, so the relatives knew he was coming!

Moses was born on August 27, 1987, in Watertown, SD to Crystal Owen, and Moses Gill II.  When he came into this world, he was met by his 4 beautiful sisters. He and 2 of the sisters were known as the "chepa trio" because they were all born close together in 1985, 1986 and 1987. Growing up Moses was always the helper; in kindergarten he got an award for taking care of others. He was born with a compassionate spirit; people were drawn to Moses, he made friends easily, and he had the art of listening. The secret he'd say is not to judge people but to accept them as they are.  Moses, he always told it like it was, his smile and his hugs could melt your heart and make you feel safe. If there was one word to describe Moses it would be "authentic" he really was. He lived life on his own terms, even with the death sentence he was given, he accepted it and openly talked about it, he made his plans and then he comforted his family. He believed in working and always put that extra effort into whatever job he held. He worked mostly in the hospitality field at Mavericks in Watertown, Minervas in Yankton and the Dakota Sioux Casino in Watertown, SD.  He had that special touch to make things good and always had ideas to make things better.  He wasn't a person seeking recognition, fame or fortune, well maybe fortune; he loved to play the slots. His biggest concern was his family, his partner Branden, his parents, his brothers and sisters and especially his nieces and nephews. He loved them with all his heart and would take care of them like they were his own. No matter what it was, if they asked or needed anything he would try and make it happen. He was a protector.  He was the kind of uncle that all kids need. They could always count on Uncle Moe.   When he was 21, he left South Dakota and moved to Hawaii where his sister was stationed in the Army. It was there that he found his peace and could finally be himself.  It was there that he met the love of his life, Branden.

Eventually the two returned to South Dakota and made a home. They had plans to eventually return to Hawaii, but time and circumstance wouldn't allow it.  If you take anything from your relationship or friendship with Moses, please take the courage to accept yourself, accept others for who they are, no judgments, no questions, just love. That's the way Mosey would have wanted it. Love is Love.

Moses is survived by his mother Crystal Owen of Watertown; his father, Moses Gill, Jr. of Watertown. SD, significant other, Branden Nakashima of Watertown, SD; two brothers Joshua Max of Watertown, SD and Tino Walking Bull of Sisseton, SD; four sisters, Patricia Roth, Krista Gill,  Heather Gill and Sara Gill all of Watertown, SD; nine nieces and nephews, Aden Roth, Thacher Roth, Quincy Gill, Johnavon Royal, Abrien Gill, Zoey Gill, Kylie Benavidez and Nora Max.

Moses was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Hiram and Lillian Owen and Paternal grandparents, Moses Sr. and Dorothy Gill; special cousin, Roger L Campbell.
