Milton Sigfred Leiseth was born on November 22nd 1920 to Soren and Brita (Jordahl) Leiseth in One Road Township, Roberts County, South Dakota. He grew up attending One Road country school thru the 8th Grade. After 8th grade he left school to work at home on the family farm. Milton was Baptized and Confirmed in the Christian Faith at Bethel Church. Milton was united in marriage on June 2nd 1948 to Jeanne (Chilson) Leiseth at the Peever Lutheran Church in Peever, SD. They made their home in Agency Township just 4 miles west of Peever,SD for almost 40 years. In the fall of 1987 they bought a home and moved into Sisseton, SD. Milton was a long time member of the Peever Lutheran Church; he was involved in numerous capacities in the early years. He was a member of the South Dakota Farmers Union and was the President of the Roberts County Farmers Union many years. Milton has been a member of the American Legion for 73 years; he was a past Commander of the Otto-Quande-Renville Post #50 American Legion. He was a past Sisseton School Board member serving for 15 years in the 70's to early 80's. He was a past member of the Peever Community Club in Peever, SD, and a past member and officer of the Sisseton Corner Squares. Milton chose soon after the High School Superintendent from Sisseton came to the farm to talk with him about attending; that High School was not for him. He chose to stay on the family farm and help raise small grain, corn for silage, cattle and numerous other farm animals. He left the farm for a short period of time for the Army during World War II, returning to the area after being injured. After returning he purchased the Erickson farm west of Peever, SD; where he farmed for the rest of his life. If you were ever to have asked him what his hobbies are, his answer would most likely have been "work". His favorite season was the fall when he could get into the combine and harvest the crops; at the age of 94 years old he climbed into the combine during the harvest of both the beans and corn. He always took pride in reading his Bible, going to church, being around his family and friends, farming, and hard work. In the later years of his life he would travel to Texas during the winter months, always to return in the spring to make sure the crops were in the ground, watch them grow, and then make sure that the harvest was completed. In March of 2012 Milton moved into Edgewood Assisted Living in Sisseton, SD where he lived until shortly before his death. Milton passed away on November 6, 2015 at Tekawitha Nursing Center, Sisseton, SD peacefully in his sleep.
