Milton Curtis Hill, age 74 of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate passed away in Peever, South Dakota on January 5, 2013. Funeral Mass is Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Sisseton, South Dakota with Fr. Tony Dummer O.M.I. Celebrant and invited Pianist Billy Kohl. The Pallbearers are cousins Harold (Sonny) Hill, Jr., Leon (Tudo) Marks, Thomas (Hammy) Marks, grandsons Caleb Ironheart and First Lieutenant Hugo Petersen, and friend Richard (Ricky) Owen. The Honorary Pallbearers are Leroy Quinn Jr., Stacey Wanna, Alvah Quinn, Sr., Jerry Flute, Lou Rice, Anthony (Tony) Barker, Elwood Greybuffalo, Sr., Dean Abraham, Sr., and Alex (Munchie) Heminger, closest male relatives Uncle Sampson Hill, half-brother Nathan Hill, only son Marlo Hill, nephews John Hill, Mitch Hill, Mark Hill, Kenneth Hill, Jr., Robert Hill, sons-in-law David George, Terry Ferguson, Peter Zabala, Hector (Freddie) Millar, and other grandsons Rollin Hill, Heath Petersen, Elias Ironheart, Lonnie Rodlund, Jr. with special mention of cousins Jarrod Marks, Darrell Hill, stepson Roland Heminger, and Jose Martinez. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Fr. Tony is leading a Prayer Service at St. Catherine's Hall on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 7:00 P.M. A Traditional Dakota Service is on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Catherine's Hall. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Milton Hill was born on September 19, 1938 in Veblen, South Dakota to Zack and Ida (Steele) Hill. In addition to vocation training as a Journeyman Ironworker, Slot Technician, and TV Repairman, his formal education included graduation as Class Valedictorian in 1957 from Plankinton High School and graduation with an Associate of Arts in General Studies at Sisseton Wahpeton College in 1991. After marrying Sharron (Wilson) Rice of Sisseton, SD in 1958, they went on the BIA Relocation Program in Dallas, Texas, and later lived in Seattle, Washington, Reno, Nevada, Sacramento area, California, and Sisseton, South Dakota. He belonged to the Journeyman Ironworker Affiliated Union locals #118, Sacramento, CA, and #86, Seattle, WA and worked in many other locals across the U.S.. He enjoyed watching football, boxing, playing poker and cribbage, and fishing. Milton passed away on January 5, 2013 at his daughter's home in rural Peever.

Thompson, SD; mother-in-law Hildreth Venegas of Sisseton, SD; Uncle Sampson and wife Jean Hill, Wahpeton, ND; 16 grandchildren, Hugo Petersen, Heath Petersen, Rollin Hill, Marlo's daughters Kayla, Ashley, Miranda, Veronica, Elizabeth and Madelline Hill, Lonnie Rodlund, Caleb Ironheart, Elias Ironheart, Stephanie Redearth's children Cherisse, Alexia, Adam, and Diego Redearth; 2 Great-Grandchildren, Zane Petersen and Hunter Hill; nephews Kenneth Hill Jr. and Robert Hill of Dell Rapids, SD, John Hill, Mitch Hill and Mark Hill of Dallas, TX; stepsonr Roland Heminger and stepdaughter Trilby Heminger.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sharron (Wilson) (Hill) Rice; 2 brothers Kenneth and Wellington Hill; 2 sons-in-law Alfred Brogden and Rodney Ironheart. The family especially appreciates the Prairie Lakes Hospice staff for the care and attention during the final week of Milton's life.
