Memorial Service for Michael George, 59 of West Fargo, ND formerly of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Fr. Andy Knop Celebrant. Organist will be Cindy Marohl and song leader will be Georgia Streier with special music by Krystal and Del Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ross Johnson, Doug Brodderson, Larry Peterson, and all of Michael's co-workers at the State of North Dakota. Inurnment will be in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, South Dakota. There will be visitation on Friday, December 26, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service at Cahill Funeral Cahpel. Family will be present from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. There will be visitation one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Michael was born in Sisseton, SD on July 5, 1949 to Lloyd and Luella (Simonson) George. He attended Sisseton Public School and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1967. It was during his high school years, through his employment with Roberts County National Bank that Mike had his first exposure to the banking industry. He enlisted in the South Dakota National Guard, attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1972. He attended North Dakota State School of Science, where he was listed in Who's Who in American Junior Colleges. He graduated from NDSSS with an associate degree in Accounting and Business Management. He moved to Pierre, where he worked for the South Dakota Public Employees Insurance System. He later worked for Bartholow Construction of Huron before taking a position as an accountant for Computerized Records System of Gregory. In 1986 he returned to Sisseton and worked as a fiscal officer for the Northeast South Dakota Community Action Program (NESDCAP). Later he was hired as a bank examiner for the State of South Dakota before eventually moving to North Dakota, where he also served as a bank examiner. Ill health forced him to retire in 2008. In his spare time, Michael enjoyed cooking and traveling. He especially enjoyed family get-togethers and spending time relaxing at the lake. Michael died on Sunday, December 21, 2008, at the Aberdeen Health and Rehab, Aberdeen, SD after a long illness.
Michael is survived by his mother, Luella George, of Sisseton, SD; three brothers, Donald (Linda) George of Sisseton, SD, Phillip (Julie) George of Lake City, SD, Perry George of Brandon, SD; two sisters, Shannon George-Larson of Pierre, SD and Sheri (Joel) Weig of Aberdeen, SD; seven nieces; and five grandnieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, maternal and paternal grandparents, and one brother-in-law Greg Larson.
