Funeral Service for Merlyn Gene Richards, 57, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. William Schruba officiating. Organist will be Mona Greseth and soloist will be Jenna Richards. Pallbearers will be Robin Richards, James Richards, Glenn Richards, Charlie Richards, Evan Finnesand and Richard Finnesand. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Custodial Staff at SHS. Interment will be in Peever Cemetery, Peever, SD. There will be visitation on Thursday, September 30, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and Friday, October 1, 2010 from 9:00 AM to noon at Cahill Funeral Chapel, and one prior to the funeral at the church. Merlyn was born on November 11, 1952 in Sisseton, SD to Bliss and Marie (Meyer) Richards. He grew up and attended country school at Agency #2 and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1971. Following his education he helped his parents on the farm. He also worked for Power Sentry, Dacotah Inc. and presently and the longest as a custodian at SHS. Merlyn liked to ride horses, motorcycles, collect NASCAR memorabilia. He liked to hunt, fish and work on the computer. Merlyn passed away suddenly on September 27, 2010 at his home in Sisseton, SD
Merlyn is survived by his mother, Marie Richards of Sisseton, SD; four brothers, Gordon and wife Karen Richards of Sisseton, SD, Ernest and wife, Scotty Richards of Peever, SD, Ronald and wife, Judy Richards of Sisseton, SD, and Steven and wife, Kristi Richards of Sisseton, SD and one sister, Delores and husband, Arnie Finnesand of Sisseton, SD; and special friend Helen Cunningham of Watertown, SD, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Merlyn was preceded in death by his father, and maternal and paternal grandparents.
