Obituary

Funeral Service for MelVerne P. Greseth, 83, of Sisseton, SD will be held at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. William Schruba officiating. Organist will be Shelley Heil with special music by Julie Medenwald and Pat Schubert. Pallbearers will be MelVerne's Grandsons Matthew Greseth, Michael Greseth, Eric Heil, Andrew Heil, Genya Kunnanz, Vlad Kunnanz, Jackson Greseth, and Levi Greseth. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of MelVerne's Friends. Military rites will be provided by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and the Fort Sisseton V.F.W. post # 3342. Interment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD on Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Sunday.
MelVerne was born April 12, 1930, Norway Township, rural Veblen, SD to Oscar and Agnes (Arneson) Greseth. He attended school grades 1 to 8 in Bossko #1 and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1948. On August 9, 1950, MelVerne and Mona Palm were married in New Effington at her home with Rev. T.C. Knutson, officiating. MelVerne left with the National Guard from Sisseton to Colorado Springs, Camp Carson, 1950 to 1951. After being discharged and a short stay in Minneapolis, they purchased the NE4 of 1-127-52 Bossko Township from Edwin and Mable Greseth. Four children were born here… Todd in 1955; Shelley in 1957; Lee in 1960; and Sue in 1962. MelVerne tested corn for Roberts County many years and was a Federal Crop Insurance Adjuster for over 50 years. He was active in township government and Bethel Church Norway Township. They owned and operated Mel's Floral from 1967 to 1975 while still farming. The family joined Grace Lutheran Church where he served on the council and also was a Stephen Minister. MelVerne and Mona moved to Sisseton in 2001. Mel entered Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD on February 4th and passed away peacefully with family by his side on February 5th.
Survived by his wife, Mona Greseth of Sisseton, SD; four children Todd (Sheila) Greseth of Fargo, ND; Shelley (Mike) Heil of Newburgh, IN; Lee (Michelle) Greseth of Sisseton, SD; Sue (Kelley) Kunnanz of Bismarck, ND; Thirteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one sister JoAnn (Charles) Oswskey of Rochester, MN.
MelVerne was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Agnes Greseth.
