Graveside service for Maynard Moen will be at 3:00 P.M. Monday, May 23, at One Road Bethel Cemetery in Sisseton, SD.   Funeral Service for Maynard C. Moen, 82, of Peever, SD will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with visitation one hour prior to service. Pastor Mike Owen will be officiating. There will be special music by Donald Backman. Pianist is Michelle Greseth. Pallbearers will be Clayton Moen, Mike Moen, Mark Moen, David Vig, Doug Martenson, Ronnie Backman, Randy Backman, Austin Backman, Shane Gamber, and Allen Waletich. Honorary Pallbearers will be Maynard's Granddaughters; Valerie, Sophie and Carlee Moen, Hub City Livestock, Sisseton Livestock, Donald & June Backman and Family, Jason Karst. Interment will be at One Road Bethel Cemetery, Sisseton, SD at a later date. There will be Visitation on Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Bible Fellowship Community Church in Peever, SD, starting at 5:00 P.M. with a prayer service and open sharing at 6:30 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Maynard Moen was born September 13, 1939, to Midel and Josephine (Grinde) Moen in Sisseton, SD. He attended Drywood Lake Grade School #4 through the eighth grade. He graduated from Sisseton High School in 1957.

Maynard married Sharon Wilson on July 16, 1966, at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Sisseton. Maynard and Sharon had two children, Ronald and Richard.

Maynard had many jobs in Sisseton; he worked at a locally owned service station, at the Sisseton Farm Supply store which was owned by Orville Buback and Oliver Radde. Maynard worked alongside butchering with Andy Eide for Stavig Brothers. He drove truck for multiple truck lines, Clinton Dahl, Angerhofer, and Lake Region with his brothers. He also worked on road construction with Truman Nelson in Grafton, ND. Maynard served his country by serving in the Army National Guard.

In 1970, Maynard began his career as a bonded Livestock Order Buyer. He bought cattle, sheep and hogs for numerous customers traveling to sale barns in McLaughlin, Herreid, Willow Lake, Huron, Watertown, Britton, Aberdeen, and Sisseton SD.

During the early 1990s Maynard and his sons bought their first trucks from Veblen Pork Incorporated creating the family-owned business known as Moen's Grain & Livestock. After the family decided to sell the business Maynard continued to drive truck for F&M Truckline based out of Fargo, ND. Then he returned to his career as a Livestock Order Buyer and remained doing so until the day he bought his last load of cattle for long time customer, Lyle Remerde on March 24, 2022.

Maynard loved his horses. He enjoyed competing at area horse shows and events with his friend and neighbor Donnie Backman and nephews Clayton and Mike. He was active in the Wilmot Saddle Club, trail riding with family and friends and taking vacations riding his horses in the Black Hills. Maynard raised numerous foals from his broodmare herd over the years, also owning many stallions along the way. One of Maynard's most cherished moments was when he purchased a young stallion named Brick's Reflection in 1981. Brick went on to become the SD State Champion All-Around Horse and Stallion in 1982 and 1983, also qualifying and traveling to the AQHA World Quarter Horse Show in Oklahoma City as the only three-year-old stallion in the team roping event. Maynard's love and passion for horses has and continues to touch lives in and around this community.

Maynard especially loved and cherished his granddaughters and family. He enjoyed attending events with and for them, horse shows, barrel races, team roping, car races, school events and family trips. Maynard was always there to encourage and support not only his own family but also others around him. Maynard enjoyed playing cards (Whist, Pinochle, May I and Pitch) at family gatherings and with friends at the sale barn. He enjoyed his coffee, visiting with company, regular mealtimes even though he could not taste, listening to the markets on AM Radio, watching David Jeremiah and countless hours of Fox News.

Maynard was an active member of Bible Fellowship Community Church, Peever, SD for many years. He believed in having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ relying on the Lord's help and strength to walk out his faith daily and finish the race set before him.

He is survived by his wife Sharon of 55 years, son Ronald (April) of Sisseton, SD, granddaughter Valerie of Waco, TX, son Richard (Jessi) and granddaughters Sophie and Carlee of Sisseton, SD, sister Elaine Pederson of Canby, MN, sister-in-laws Carol Moen, Marge Moen of Sisseton, SD, Pauletta Moen of Tennyson, IN and many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Maynard is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clayton, Edward, Larry, Ray, Arden, sister Connie and a niece Leisha.

Maynard loved the Lord, his wife, family, and friends. He always cared for others, loved, and forgave. Life was always an adventure for him he was not afraid to live nor afraid to die. We rejoice as we know Maynard is eternally with Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior.
