Funeral Service for Max Sckerl, 86 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with celebrant Rev. Fr. Jerry Ranek with organist Cindy Marohl and song leader Sandi Jaspers. Pallbearers will be Randy Heitmann, Nick Heitmann, Dan Winder, Ron Sckerl, Waymon Allen and Tim Brown. Military Rites By Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton V.F.W. Post #3342. Inurnment will be at a later date at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Lake City, SD. There will be visitation at the Cahill Funeral Chapel on Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. with a 7:30 P.M. Prayer Service. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Max Michael Sckerl was born on May 8, 1930 to Rudolph and Cecila Sckerl. He had three siblings, Maxine, Rochelle and Rudolph, Jr. He graduated from Lake City High School. He met and married the love of his life, Jerry on May 12, 1956. Their first child, Tom, was born on August 5, 1957. Their second child, Kari, was born on July 14, 1961.
Max received his Bachelor's degree from University of South Dakota; his Master's Degree from the University of North Dakota, and his PhD from the University of Arkansas.
Max's career took them to California, Georgia, Tennessee and Texas and back to Georgia where Max retired. Max and Jerry returned to Sisseton.
Max was an avid golfer, a Commander in the American Legion and was active in St. Peter's Catholic Church.
He will be missed.
Max is survived by his wife, Jerry Sckerl of Sisseton, SD; daughter, Kari (Waymon) Allen of Houston, TX; one sister, Rochelle (Roy) Winder of Britton, SD; one brother Rudolf (Mary) Sckerl Jr. of Lake City, SD.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, one son Tom and one sister Maxine Heitmann.
