Funeral Service for Mavis Colleen Quinn, 66, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Dwight Fearing and Rev. Vern Donnell officiating. Organist will be Gloria Slaamot. Pallbearers will be Joshua, Jessica, and Jillyn Brooks, Verlyn Beaudreau, Dustin LaBelle, Brayden, Laci, and Kiara LaFromboise, Jorden Just, Ashlynn, Saige, and Semiah LaFromboise. Honorary pallbearers will be Lorraine Wolf Voice, Beatrice Biddell, Linda Flikka, Rhoda Renville, Pam Anderson, Verzella Huckfeldt, Evelyn Eagle, Dolly Max-Fisher, and Delphine Wanna. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be a wake service on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 7:00 PM at the Tribal Community Center in Agency Village, SD.
Mavis Colleen Quinn was born on June 3, 1947 in Sisseton, SD to Leroy and Louella (Wanna) Quinn Sr.. She grew up and attended school at Enemy Swim Day School then attended Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo, ND graduating in 1966. She then attended Mitchell Vo-Tech in Mitchell, SD graduating in 1972 as a certified Lab Technician. She then worked as a lab tech at the Sioux San Hospital in Rapid City, SD. Mavis then returned to Sisseton and worked at IHS and Coteau Hospitals as a lab tech and she also worked for the Sisseton School District in the Title 4 program. She then worked at IHS as a secretary until she retired. Mavis liked to watch her children play basketball, she liked to crochet, watch scary movies on TV, shopping at thrift stores, and she liked to garden and plant flowers. Mavis gave her life to Jesus Christ in 1994. She passed away on January 17, 2014 at Tekakwitha Nursing Center with her family at her side after several lengthy bouts with cancer.
Mavis is survived by five children, Terri Brooks of Sisseton, SD, Dustin LaFromboise of Sisseton, SD, Tanya LaFromboise of Sisseton, SD, Landon and wife Sheri LaFromboise of Peever, SD, and Trisha LaFromboise of Sisseton, SD. two brothers, LeRoy Quinn Jr. of Sisseton, SD and Darrell and wife Robin Quinn Sr. of Sisseton, SD, five sisters, Marlys Beaudreau of Sisseton, SD, Carol and husband Melvin Clifford Sr. of North Sioux City, SD, Pam Quinn of Sisseton, SD, Fran Quinn of Sisseton, SD, and Tami and husband John Seiber of Sisseton, SD, twelve grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Marilyn, and one brother Verlyn.
