Mavis Darlene (Cleveland) Krueger was born on May 22, 1938 to Lowell and Eunice (Gilberts) Cleveland in Webster, SD and grew up north of Ortley, SD.  Mavis went to school through the 8th grade and then started her life long career as a daycare-nanny provider for numerous families.  Mavis and Lenord were married Dec. 22, 1956 in Wheaton MN.  They started their family in 1957 with Karen being the first born, followed by Lindsay, Tamra, twins Marty and Mary, Robert, Lynnette, and Lana.  They resided in Peever, SD until 1978 when they relocated to Clark, SD.  They lived there until 1998.  When Lenord retired they then moved to Watertown, SD to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Over the years Mavis took care of countless children, was very involved with the Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school for well over 30 years.  She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and loved helping with luncheons and Bingo for both the Legion and VFW.  Mavis was always known for organizing our Family reunions, her programs and gifts will always be treasured. Mavis not only took care of children; she cared for her husband for many years before he entered the Jenkins Living Center.

In her spare time Mavis enjoyed camping, baking, visiting, making bread, bags of popcorn for family movie night, collecting stamps. Lenord and Mavis trips to Sturgis with Marty and Robbie, family reunions to Lake Okoboji, and spending time with children and grandchildren and her great grandchildren. The grandchildren will always remember grandma putting together U.S. quarter collection for each and every one of them.

Mavis passed away peacefully on September 22, 2023 early in the morning at her home at the Strand Kjorsvig Rest Home, Roslyn, SD with her family surrounding her.
