Obituary

Funeral Service for Maurice George Frenier Sr., 70 of Agency Village will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 6:00 PM at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village with the Rev. Larry Thiele officiating. Pallbearers will be Vince Cook, Jeffory Cook, Maurice Frenier Jr., Anthony Frenier Sr., Ronald Frenier, Gokoh Brown, Michael Jones, Hammie Cook and Daniel Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Maurice's Family and Friends. Interment will be at Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery at Big Coulee, South Dakota. There will be all night wakes on Sunday, August 15, 2010 and Monday, August 16, 2010 starting at 6:00 PM at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD. Maurice was born on January 25, 1940 in Sisseton, SD to August and Nixola (Lawrence) Frenier. He attended school in Peever and graduated from John Marshall High School in Los Angeles, CA in 1960. Maurice married Judy LaHaie in September 1959 in Los Angeles, CA. On August 6, 1963 he married Marie Weber in Los Angeles, CA. In 1970 Maurice returned to Agency Village, SD. Maurice married Eileen Cook in October of 1970 at Wheaton, MN. Maurice worked for the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe as a carpenter for the housing, security at Dakota Sioux and later in the Food Distribution Program retiring in 2007. He enjoyed playing the slot machines, driving around the country, supervising when working on cars, but his greatest joy was spending time with his kids and grandkids. Maurice passed away on August 13, 2010 at Avera McKennon Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD.
Maurice is survived by two daughters, Cathy Michelle Frenier of Sisseton, SD and Elizabeth Frenier Brown of Agency Village, SD; six sons, Vince Cook of Michigan, Jeffery Cook of Sisseton, SD, Michael Jones of Deering, AK, Maurice Frenier Jr., of Sioux Falls, SD, Anthony Frenier Sr. of Pickeral Lake, and Ronald Frenier of Chamberlain, SD; three brothers, Chuck Frenier of Santé Fe, Andre Frenier of Hankinson, ND and Eddie Frenier of Oregon; two sisters, Catherine Frenier of New Effington, SD and Barbara Haylett of Las Vegas, NV; eighteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eileen and one daughter, Ann Jeannette Cook Frenier.
