Funeral Service for Matthew Ellingson, 27 of New Effington, SD will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at the Faith Lutheran Church, New Effington, SD with Pastor Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett officiating. Organist will be Diane Bartnick and soloist will be Mariah Christopherson. Pallbearers will be Cody Gunderson, Tim Adair, Dougie Flannery, Jeremiah Johnson, Luke Johnson, Christian Johnson, Dallas Hill, and Darin Weidenbach. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Matthew's Cousins. Burial will be in the Scandia Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation on Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and at Faith Lutheran Church, New Effington, SD from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Matthew, the son of Paul and Kathy (Christopherson) Ellingson was born on August 13, 1987 in Watertown, SD. He attended New Effington Elementary and graduated from Sisseton High School in 2006. Throughout all 13 years of school, Matthew had perfect attendance, never missing a day of school. During high school, he enjoyed playing football. In May of 2008, he graduated from Mitchell Technical Institute with a degree in electrical construction and maintenance. Matthew loved the outdoors. He enjoyed attending trail rides, as well as going camping, hunting, fishing, and hanging with his "buddies." Family meant the world to Matthew. Throughout the years he has been a loving and protecting older brother to his sister, Rachel. He was very proud of his family, Elissa Adams, his life partner, and his children, Annalea, Harlee, and Kade. He was always ready to show off how smart his babies were and the new things they were learning. Matthew was extremely generous and kind. He always put other people's needs before his own. He was always the first one to help his buddies. Matthew's generous spirit will be greatly missed by us all and will never be forgotten. Matthew passed away on September 29, 2014.
He is survived by his parents Paul and Kathy Ellingson of New Effington, SD; three children Annalea Ellingson of New Effington, SD, Harlee Ellingson of Rosholt, SD, Kade Ellingson of Rosholt, SD; one sister Rachel Ellingson of New Effington, SD; one niece Bria Blackthunder of New Effington, SD; grandparents Harlyn and Betty Christopherson of Peever, SD; significant other Elissa Adams of Rosholt, SD; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Norman and Erna Ellingson; maternal great-grandparents Joe and Alice Christopherson and August and Bernie Azure; paternal great-grandparents John and Ellen Ellingson and Emil and Anna Bartnick.
