Funeral Mass for Mathilda M. "Tillie" (Deutsch) Waletich, 88 of Eden, SD will be held Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eden, SD with the Rev. Fr. Tom Cool celebrant. Organist will be Mary Wagner, and soloist will be Katie Wegleitner and music provide by Sacred Heart Catholic Church Choir. Pallbearers will be Tom Block, Dana Gaukel, Denise Lagro, Julie Johnson, Kevin Block, Earl Cressman, Brenda Erickson and Lynn Klepper. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Mathilda's great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, Diane Sommers, Virginia Gruby, Lori and Joe Honer. Burial will be in the St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Eden, SD. There will be a wake service on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be visitation one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Mathilda was born on June 11, 1920 in Eden, SD to Joseph L. and Anna (Sattler) Deutsch. She attended parochial school in Eden and finished 8th grade in a country school. Mathilda's life work was being a housewife and farmer. Her interests were her love of gardening, flowers, cooking and visiting with friends and family. Mathilda was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eden. Mathilda passed away on May 17, 2009 at Sanford Hospital, Webster, SD.
Mathilda is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann (Ed) Metter of Yankton, SD, Janice Block of Apple Valley, MN, and Lillian (Tom) Jansen of Lake Park, IA; one son, Dayton Deutsch of Eden, SD; one sister, Regina Lentz of Watertown, SD; two brothers, William and Arlene Deutsch of Eden, SD, and Florenz and JoAnn Deutsch of Eden, SD; one sister-in-law, Mary Deutsch of Madison, SD; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Mathilda was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Richard Deutsch and second husband George Waletich; one infant son, and one great grandchild, Paige Gaukel; two brothers, Rudy and Herbert; two sisters, Sally and Margaret; and one son-in-law.
