Obituary

Funeral Service for Mary M. Keeble, 76, of Enemy Swim, SD will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at the Enemy Swim Community Center. Fr. Charles Chan, Amos Roberts, Marlon Hunt, and the St. James Episcopal Lay Readers will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Joshua Keeble, Michael and Nicholas Thiel, Talon Tulowetzke, Jason Gill, Asa Roberts, Trinity Roberts, Arthur Irish Jr., Michael St. John, Thomas St. John and Charles St. John. Honorary Pallbearers will be Virginia Thiel, Margaret Yellowback, Bernie Kohl, Dee Autdencamp, Darlene Williams, Rita Finley, Noreen Iyarpeya, Clarice Medicine Stone, Jake DeMarrias, Darrell Renville, Sophie Bissonette, Myra Bendickson, Bernadine Gaikowski, Tanya Lafromboise, Imelda Eagle and Maria Redday. Interment will be at the Keeble Family Cemetery, Grenville, SD. There will be Wake Service on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at the Enemy Swim Community Center, Waubay, SD starting at 7:00 P.M and All-night Wake Service on Wednesday starting at 7:00 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Margaret Keeble was born on May 25, 1946 in Sisseton, SD to Simon and Lucy (Eagle) Keeble. As a child she was in the Tekakwitha orphanage Boarding School in Sisseton, SD along with her brothers and sisters. Then when she was in the 8 th grade she attended The Flandreau Indian school. She moved back home at the age of 16 to help take care of her younger siblings. When she was 18 she got her GED and entered the Job Corp in Cleveland, OH. There Mary was training to become a Certified Cosmetologist. She worked as a housekeeper in Mandan, ND for a short time. Then at Garden City, SD during the potato harvest. She worked at Dakota Poultry for 26 years. Then she retired for eight years. She enjoyed working so retirement was not for her. As she had been working since she was 16. Along with her daughter, Margaret and son-in-law Eugene "Rabbit" Crawford and along with her brother Gabe Keeble, they worked for 10 years. Then she went to work for the Tribal Elderly Nution program from 2006 to present. Her illness took a toll on her ability to work. Mary loved working at the Tribal Elderly and enjoyed her co-workers so much. She was an active member of the SWO for many years and served on the Election Board for the Enemy Swim District and served on the SWO Pow Wow Committee. She always attended the Enemy Swim District and Council meetings and wasn't afraid to voice her opinion. Mary fostered and adopted many children in her life time. She was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. Mary was a devoted Christian who pledged her life to Christ and valued family traditions and was proud of her heritage. Mary enjoyed Wheel of Fortune, word find booklets ad reading about the Lord. Mary passed away at Bethesda Nursing Home, Webster, SD on June 18, 2022.

Mary is survived her daughter, Margret Keeble of Waubay, SD; her grandson Joshua Keeble of Waubay, SD and her granddaughter Tessa Eberhardt; son Simon Keeble of Sisseton, SD; granddaughter Kiara LaFromboise of St. Paul, MN and one great-grandson Percy Lussier Jr. of St. Paul, MN; one sister, Virginia (Keeble)
Thiel of Watertown, SD and one brother, Sylvester (Margaret) Yellowback of Sisseton, SD and her adopted daughter, Tamara Davis of Ft. Kipp, Mt.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Lucy (Eagle) Keeble; her siblings Orville Seaboy, John Keeble, Catherine L. (St. John) Keeble, Sylvia S. (Keeble) Irish, Duane B. Keeble. Jr., Arthur J. Keeble, Nancy Keeble, Gabriel Keeble and Kathleen C. (Keeble) Tulowetzke and one adopted brother, Cyril Keeble.
