Obituary

Funeral Service for Marvin Everett Tamazaka Hisgun, 80, of Agency, South Dakota will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center, Agency Village SD with Milton Owen, Clifford Lafontaine, Clyde Kampeska, Michael Lafontaine Sr. and Harvey Quinn officiating. Pianist will be Billy Kohl.  Drum group will be Old Agency Singers. Pall Bearers will be Morris Chanku, Jon Young, Delvin Lufkins, Theodore Freiner, Michael Lafontaine Sr., and Sylvan Flute.  Honorary Pall Bearers will be All Marvin's nieces, nephews, friends, Jim and Joyce Pickthorn and All staff at Tiopa Zina Tribal School. Military Rites by Kit Fox Society. Marvin will be buried in the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Veteran Cemetery, Sisseton, South Dakota. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Marvin was born on January 22, 1943 at Sisseton, South Dakota to Everett and Phoebe (Cloud) Hisgun. He graduated from Flandreau Indian School in 1963.  He served honorably in the US Army.  After service he attended a VoTech School in Los Angeles, California for auto body & fender and certified carpenter. He moved back to South Dakota in 1972.  He did farm work from 1972 - 1976, from 1977 - 1980 he was a supervisor at Woolrich Factory, tribal programs 1980 - 1986; BIA janitor from 1986 - 1992,  Dakota Western Bag Factory 1992 – 1996; shuttle driver from July 1994 - July 1996, Woodland Cabinetry 1997 – 2005; TZ school custodian 2000 – 2020 when he retired.  In his pastime Marvin liked to go on drives.  He was a big Minnesota Vikings football fan and a LA Lakers basketball fan. He liked to treat his family to lunch and dinner. He enjoyed cooking especially soup and fry bread. He liked to babysit his two granddaughters Josefina and Agatha Donis and his three step-grandchildren Lusvin, Josseline, and Luisito Mijangos. Marvin passed away at his home in Watertown, SD on April 10, 2023.

Marvin is survived by his wife Agatha Hisgun; children Marvin Hisgun Jr., Erik Hisgun and Marvel (Hisgun) and husband, Jose Luis Mijangos all of Watertown, SD; step-children Sophie Renville of Rapid City, SD, Carol (King) Enno and Eugene King Jr. of Newton, ND and Madonna King of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother Duane Hisgun Sr. of Sisseton, SD ; two granddaughters Josefina and Agatha Ana Mijangos of Watertown, SD ; three step-children Lusvin, Josseline, and Luisito Mijangos of Guatemala, and numerous nieces & nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Phoebe (Cloud) Hisgun; angel baby;  brother Randy Hisgun Sr., two baby brothers; sisters Madeline (Hisgun) Dodson; Yvonne (Hisgun) Keeble, and one infant sister.
