Funeral Service for Martha Alice Melinda Renville, 68, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton, South Dakota with Rev. Fr. Charles Chan, Episcopal Lay Readers, CRE JC Crawford, John Cloud III, Chris Freemont officiating. Organist will be Billy Kohl. Drum group is Any and All Singers. Pallbearers will be Eddie Johnson, Kingsmill Johnson, Duane Renville, Arden Bemis, CJ Webster, Jordan Renville, Travis Renville, J Garret Renville, Atreyu Renville and Jerry Grant. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nancy Freemont, Barb Freemont, Colleen DuMarce, Pam Renville, Rhonda Kampeska, Anne Starr, Deb White, Sydney Bird, Mary Painter, Marie Renville, Marsha Renville, Angie Johnson, Rolanda Quinn, Cheyanne Quinn, Bonnie Quinn, Nettie Kirk, Emma Greybull, Norma DeCoteau, Shannon LaBatte, Louella and John Cloud III, Patrick Deutsch Jr., Curtis Bissonette, Carrie Godfrey, Darin White, Tom Wilson, Jenny Renville Nakanishi, Mike Carlson, Karen Greyeyes, Steve McCleerey, and The SHS Class of 1971.  Interment will be in the Goodwill Presbyterian Cemetery, Agency Village, SD.  The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Martha Alice Melinda Renville was born on March 29, 1953 in Sisseton, SD to Naomi Freemont Renville and Joseph Renville.  She had spent most of her childhood life traveling to pow-wows with her father and family selling sno-cones and popcorn while making friends and maintaining Dakota and Omaha family connections.

Martha was a graduate of Sisseton High School Class of 1971. Education and scholarship was something Martha held in high regard and she received an associate's Degree from Presentation College in Aberdeen SD and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from the University of Minnesota-Morris. She later continued her studies and pursued her Masters degree at the University of Chicago. She carried on that admiration of scholarship and shared encouragement of education and intellectualism with her family and friends. Many of her friendships in life stemmed from her years studying at various higher education institutions; and many of those friendships carried on to this day.

Martha had a diverse professional career, spending time in Indian Gaming, Indian Education, Victims Assistance, and Child Support Enforcement. She was passionate about helping community members who could not speak up for themselves and enjoyed working with the elderly as she served on Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Council at various times in the 1990's and on various Old Agency District Boards and Committees.

Martha was quoted "I tried to keep my ear to the ground in case I needed to help someone in some capacity."

Martha passed away on January 23, 2022 surrounded by family and friends at Coteau Des Prairie Hospital Sisseton SD.

Martha is survived by her children, Austin Wicasta Wasté, (Jamie Anderson) Renville of Sisseton, SD and Allison Nazazé Renville of Agency Village, SD; 6 Grandchildren Makhia, Atreyu, Orion, and Reid Renville, Arden Bemis and Asher Renville. Brothers; Robin (Barb Iron Cloud) Renville of Albuquerque, NM, Grady (Shirley) Renville of Las Vegas NV, and Bruce Renville of Sioux Falls, SD, and many Hunka sisters and relatives

She was preceded in death by her parents Naomi Freemont-Renville and Joseph Renville; brothers Arden K Renville, Harlow Lance Renville and Jon Freemont; and Sister Cleola Painter.
