Funeral Service for Martha H. Mandan, 82, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Family Life Assembly of God Church, Sisseton, SD with Pastor Kirk Snaza officiating with special music by Marnie Snaza and the COC Choir. Pallbearers will be Mickey Renville, Heather Renville, Kevin Jones, Juanetta Renville, Emerson Mandan, Raylene Ramos, Daniel FlyingHawk, Robinette Aguilar, and Loren Greeley Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Martha's family and friends. Interment will be in the Mayasan Presbyterian Cemetery, Claire City, SD. There will be a wake services at the Christian Outreach Center, Sisseton, SD on Thursday, September 6, 2018 and Friday, September 7, 2018 starting at 7:00 PM. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Martha Hilda Day- Mandan past over at her home on September 3, 2018; Martha was born on October 8, 1935 to James C. Day and Julia Day (Frenier). Martha was born in Sisseton, South Dakota but lived and grew up in the Veblen area, there home was in the coulee behind the Mayasan Church. The Mayasan Presbyterian Church was organized in 1872; in which her earthly father James Day and grandfather Baptiste Freiner were Elders of. Martha had four children Jolene, Emerson, Crystal and Kevin. Martha had adopted two boys Lorenzo and Bret Mandan (Obago). Martha had always opened her home to be a foster parent to many, many, children. Martha also raised two grandchildren as her own Raylene Ramos daughter of Jolene, and her grandson Loren Greeley, Jr., Martha also raised her two nieces Robinette and Winona for a few years of their young lives. Martha did not have an easy life her earthly father past over when Martha was only 6 years old. Martha loved school but only went to the 8 ^th grade and had to drop out to help her mother with the raising of her younger siblings. As Martha grew to a young woman she got TB at the age of 20 years old, she was sent to Rapid City, SD where they removed one of her lungs. Martha had an addiction that had cause the loss of her youngest son to be taken from her, the welfare system was corrupt, and her youngest son was adopted out at the age of 6 years old, a son that she never did stop loving. Martha by God's grace was able to overcome her addiction. Martha did eventually obtain her GED. As Martha got older she still had it in her heart to become a nurse and since she loved school at her late age in the 40's she moved to Minneapolis, MN to attend nursing school and graduated as an LPN, Martha later moved back to the Sisseton area and worked at the Nursing Home then got a job at the Indian Health Services. Martha had lots of fun with the nurses there, Arlene One Road, Jamie German, Noreen I, Colleen Donell, and the other nurses there, she made good friends in the lab to (Candy), and the dietary department (Irene and Diane). Mother loved her Mayasan Presbyterian Church, but with the church so far away and hard to get to in the Winter plus having a shortage of Ministers, Martha started attending the Assembly of God Church in Sisseton, there she found a Pastor that she grew quite fond of, and his name was Pastor Fearing, throughout the years Pastor Fearing became very close to Martha and her family. In, later years when Martha wasn't to active or mobile Pastor Fearing would come to Martha's home visit and bring her communion, Christmas time he brought her a fruit basket which she surely enjoyed. Pastor Fearing came into her home to share the word as well as the Mayasan Presbyterian Church members they would have a short church service and provide her with communion, Martha sure loved this. Martha loved it when her nieces the Simon girls would come and have bible study with her she would sit there with her eyes closed listening to God's word, Martha would chime in when she had something to say or we would ask the wise one what her thoughts were. Martha also loved it when the younger nieces would come visit Ms. Jerilyn would come to learn the Dakota language Martha loved this time being able to talk her language. Martha attended church services every Sunday and Wednesday evenings at the COC (Christian Outreach Center) Martha did this for many years until she was unable to drive herself anymore. In Martha's last years she was diagnosed with Parkinson disease, this really limited her mobility, she didn't want to stay at the local nursing home, so she asked her niece Ms. Cindy Lou to take care of her, with Martha's request Ms. Cindy Lou accepted. Ms. Cindy Lou (a.k.a. Doris Day) as Martha would jokily call Ms. Cindy. Ms. Cindy took care of Martha for 2 full years in which Martha's family is forever grateful to her. With Martha's one lung time took its toll on her, in her last month's Martha was on full oxygen, something she must not have liked because the day came when she took her oxygen off and never put it back on. On Monday, August 27 ^th Pastor Kirk was called; he came and had a visit and some prayers with Martha.   Martha grew weaker and weaker and hospice was called in to help comfort her in her last days, family stopped by to say their goodbyes. So, she remained very peaceful until her Lord and Savior took her back to the heavenly place in which she believed she would go.

Martha is survived by her three children, Emerson, Crystal and Kevin, adopted son's Lorenzo and Bret; sister Josephine Doxtator and brother in-law Robert Doxtator; many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Martha preceded in death by her parents James, Julia, one daughter Jolene, four brothers Moses, Lewis, Larry and baby brother boy Morris. One grandson Samuel Sine (Emerson James).
