Funeral Service for Martha Carlson, 95, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. William Schruba officiating. Organist will be Mona Greseth with special music by David Fink, Caleb and Cara Fink. Pallbearers will be Larry and Mark Becker, David Fink, Lynn Shelver, Robert and Ronald Oien. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Martha's Family and Friends. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation on Sunday, January 10, 2010 from1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with family present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. There will be visitation one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Martha M. Rinas was born December 22, 1914 rural New Effington, SD to William and Amanda (Wolff) Rinas. She attended country school at New Effington, SD and Claire City, SD. Martha worked on the family farm until her marriage to Albert Oien on December 20, 1934. Albert passed away in 1947. Martha moved to Sisseton and worked at the City Bakery and Landsberger Creamery. Martha remarried on November 12, 1955, to Wallace Carlson. They moved to the farm at rural New Effington, where they farmed and milked cows. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, flowers and raising chickens, ducks, and geese. Wallace passed away in 1972. Martha continued to live on the farm until 1993 when she moved into the High Rise. Martha entered the Tekakwitha Nursing Center in 2005. She passed away on January 5, 2010 at the Tekakwitha Nursing Center, Sisseton, SD.
Martha is survived by one daughter, Marlys and husband, Darrell Anderson of Sisseton, SD; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Albert Oien and Wallace Carlson, two sons, Marlin and Raymond Oien, two brothers, Ed and Hank, and three sisters, Frieda, Ella, and Bertha.
