Obituary

Funeral Service for Marlys JoAnn Erdahl, 92, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Pastor Josh Knudsen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Organist will be Ollie Yost with special music by Elaine Erdahl.  Pallbearers will be Larry Erdahl, Jon Erdahl, Dave Chase, Brandon Erdahl, Cole Erdahl, and Harrison Terrill. Honorary pallbearers will be the Stoney Brook Suites' Residents & Staff and all of Marly's Family and Friends. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, South Dakota following the service. Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Marlys was born on April 2, 1931, to Ingvald and Malla (Jacobson) Steen in Browns Valley, MN. She attended school in Sisseton and one year in Portland, Oregon before graduating from Sisseton High School in 1949. She started working for the Sisseton School District as a secretary immediately following graduation with the exception of five years when she stayed home to care for her children. She worked for the school for 38 years. She married Wesley Erdahl on June 5, 1954, in Sisseton, SD. To this union, two children were born; Beth and James. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and served on the church council, Grace Lutheran Church serving group and was a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed volunteering with the Grey Ladies at the Tekakwitha Nursing Center. She loved her children and grandchildren and getting together with friends. Marlys also loved her Norwegian heritage and had quite the fondness for lutefisk. She loved the Minnesota Twins, playing cards, and decorating for every holiday. Wesley and Marlys moved to Stoney Brook Suites retirement center in April of 2019. Wesley passed away on August 20, 2019. Marlys passed away on August 8, 2023, at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD.

Marlys is survived by her daughter Beth Erdahl of Sioux Falls and her son James (Sherri) Erdahl of Wahpeton, ND, sisters-in-law Arline Judish and Elvonne Erdahl, grandchildren Krista (Harrison) Terrill, Brandon Erdahl, and Cole Erdahl, and several nieces and nephews.

Marlys is preceded in death by her parents Ingvald and Malla (Jacobson) Steen, her husband Wesley Erdahl, her brother Willard Steen, brothers-in-law Kenneth Erdahl, Neil "Pete" Erdahl, and Floyd Judish, and sister-in-law Bonnie Erdahl.
