Funeral Mass for Marjorie M. Hannasch, 86, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peters Catholic Church in Sisseton, SD. and Rev. Fr. Joseph Hitpas will be the Celebrant, with Cindy Marohl organist and Sandi Jaspers will be song leader. Pallbearers will be Mike Hannasch, Chris Miller, Andy Sunderland, Adam Rinas, Tim Galbraith, and John Nathem. Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff and friends at the Greenleaf Assisted Living Center. Interment will be in the St. Peters Catholic Cemetery at Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 1:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service at the Cahill Funeral Chapel.
Marjorie (Margie) Hannasch, joined her savior in heaven on December 5, 2012. Margie was born on October 14, 1926 in Bowdle SD, to Christ and Anna (Warner) Heilman. Bowdle was a small farming community of immigrants where the entire town spoke German. Margie said the family had a difficult time when moving to Sisseton because they had to learn to speak English. She and her sister, Helen, attended elementary school in Bowdle, and later moved to Sisseton where the girls attended and graduated from high school.
Margie's first job was at Roberts County National Bank, and she would later tell her grandkids how very proud she was to have worked there. For over 50 years, she saved a letter that the bank president wrote to her thanking her for a job well done. She met and married her future husband Abby Hannasch on August 2, 1947 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Sisseton, where they resided and owned several businesses together over the years. Margie could be seen at Hannasch Furniture & Appliance, where she handled the record keeping and worked in all aspects of the business. Margie and Abby raised two children, Diane and Don, and she was very proud of both of them. She was known as a loving mother and grandma, and someone who loved to laugh. She spent many hours gardening and planting flowers, and she loved to spend time decorating. She was a lifelong member of St Peter's Catholic Church, and has attended many bible studies and retreats there over the years, which she enjoyed very much.
Margie is survived by her daughter Diane Miller of Bellingham, WA and son Don Hannasch and special friend Deb Ellsworth of Sisseton, SD. She is also survived by grandchildren Chris Miller of Bellingham, WA, Marcy (Adam) Rinas of Fargo ND, Mike Hannasch of Wahpeton ND, and Lisa (Andy) Sunderland of Breckenridge MN. She is survived by her great grandchildren Alena Rinas, Jordan Hannasch, and Vanessa, Jaxon and Mylah Sunderland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Abby, an infant brother Jerome, her sister Helen (Jack) Galbraith, and her sister Delores (Richard) Janish.
