Funeral Service for Margarette Alene "Marge" Block, 81 of Sisseton, SD will be held at 10:30 AM, on Monday, January 13, 2014 at the Family Life Assembly of God Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Vernon Donnell and Rev. Robert Beasley officiating. Organist will be Gloria Slaamot and a duet by June Evenson and Gloria Slaamot. Pallbearers will be Jeff Block, Nicholas Welch, Tony Welch, CeCe Figueroa, Daniel Figueroa, and Kevin Myers. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Marge's Friends and Family. Interment will be in the Zoar Lutheran Cemetery, rural Grenville, SD. Visitation will be at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD on Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M.
Margarette Alene Runyon was born on August 20, 1932 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Louis and Myrtle (Buss) Runyon. She attended school in Minneapolis, MN. Marge was united in marriage to Russell Welch in August 1951. They lived in Minneapolis, where they raised their family. In earlier 1970 Marge moved to Sisseton, SD and was united in marriage to Larry George. They lived in Seattle, Minneapolis and then St. Paul. Marge worked for Midway Hospital in St. Paul. Larry passed away in St. Paul. Marge returned to Sisseton in the mid 1970's. Marge volunteered at the Assembly of God Church. Marge was united in marriage to Tom Block on March 10, 1979 in Las Vegas, NV. In 1984 until 1994, they lived in Golden Colorado and Colorado Springs, where Marge managed a large apartment complex. Tom and Marge moved back to Sisseton in 1994. Marge worked at Tekakwitha Nursing Center as a volunteer in social work; she also worked for the South Dakota Dept of Corrections, and the Green Thumb Program as a care giver. Marge was a member of the Family Life Assembly of God Church, served on the Chamber of Commerce, Senior Citizens, Zoar Church and the VFW Auxiliary #3342. Marge passed away on January 9, 2014 at the Tekakwitha Living Center.
Margie is survived by her husband, Thomas Block of Sisseton, SD; ten children, Chuck and wife, Mazy Welch of Baltimore, MD, Russell and wife, Shelly Welch of Hamburg, IA, Leroy Welch of Victoria, MN, Scott and wife, Susie Welch of Casa Grande, AZ, Allene and husband, Dale Hasse of Brooklyn, MN, Sylvia Baltzell of Louisville, KY, Jeff Block of Sisseton, SD, Dale Block of Sisseton, SD, Tammy Block of Aberdeen, SD, and Kevin and wife, Dawn Block of Waubay, SD; twenty six grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Gerald and wife, Betty Block of Sisseton, SD; and Harvey Block of Golden, CO; two sisters-in-law Shirley Tucker of Hemet, CA and Marlys Bubak of Golden, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, her late husbands, Russell Welch and Larry George; one granddaughter, Ashley Welch; one grandson Kenny Block; one sister, Ellice Krone, and one brother Pat Runyon
