Obituary

Funeral Service for Mabel Eva (Amos) Neilan will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Ascension Presbyterian Church, Big Coulee with the Rev. Enright BigHorn officiating. Organist will be Billy Kohl and Mary Beth Kirk. Special music by Don Backman, Jim Anderson, Butch Felix and the Big Coulee Choir. Pallbearers will be Richard Williams, Adrian Williams, Darrell Amos, Tim Amos, Harvey Quinn, and Gerald Amos. Honorary Pallbearers will be Marlene IronHeart, Alta German, Lori Neilan,Phyllis Quinn, Starr Quinn, and Chaske Quinn, and Public Health Nurses. Interment will be in Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery. Wake Service will be held on Monday, at 7:00 PM at the Big Coulee District Center.
Mabel Eva (Amos) Neilan was born on September 8, 1936 to Norby and Flora (Phelps) Amos in Sisseton, South Dakota. She graduated from Flandreau Indian School in 1955. She helped her husband farm, and worked for Lloyd and Clarice Frederickson's store in Big Coulee. She also worked for Dakotah, Inc. Mabel was a great homemaker and enjoyed raising her family and grandkids. She took in other boys who needed motherly love, and helped with the elderly. She made beautiful star quilts and her quilts were known across the United States and other countries. She was devoted to the Ascension Presbyterian Church in Big Coulee and was a Ladies Aid President, Trustee, and worked for the church for many years. Mabel passed away on November 8, 2012 at the Golden Living Center, Moorhead, Minnesota.

Mabel is survived by 4 sons: Garry & Betty, Danny & Theresa, Jimmy & Kyleen, and Ronnie & Karena; 12 grandchildren (Chelsey, Kylee, Dusty, Dirk, Brent, Corey, Danielle, Kaci, Jasmine, Katelyn, Riley, and Ronald Jr), 2 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: LaVelva Williams and Geraldine & Dave Cole; 2 brothers: Charles Amos, Sr. and Harlan & Betty Amos; 3 adopted sisters: Felicia Brown Kater, Mayford Brown, and Delphine Brown; 2 adopted daughters: Rhonda Fancher Flores and Amber Shaffer; 1 adopted son: Dennis Owen, Jr., and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, parents, 1 infant son, 1 sister (Sybil Amos Shaffer), and 2 brothers (Melvin Amos and Gaylord Amos).
