A Celebration of Life for Lyla Dianne Harris, 82, of Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church. Sisseton, SD with Rev. Joshua Knudsen Officiating. The organist will be Ollie Yost. Pall Bearers will be Bobby Johnston, Paul Johnston, Brandon Johnston, Darin Robertson, Christian Ruckdaschel and Rick Ruckdaschel. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Fort Sisseton VFW Auxiliary #3342 and Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Auxiliary #50. There will be visitation on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Lyla Dianne Ruckdaschel was born on August 14, 1940 in Sisseton, S.D. to Ralph and Violet (Johnston) Ruckdaschel. She was raised on a farm near Claire City, S.D. and attended primary school at Norway No. 5. She attended high school in Sisseton where she was named homecoming princess in 1957 and graduated in 1958. After high school, Lyla moved to Rapid City, S.D., to study cosmetology. Lyla was united in marriage to Ray Harris on February 21, 1960 in Rapid City. Ray served in the United States Air Force which took them to military bases in Puerto Rico, Italy and throughout the U.S. where Lyla worked as a beautician. Upon Ray's retirement from the Air Force, they returned home to Sisseton.
Lyla was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a life time member of the Fort Sisseton VFW Auxiliary #3342 and Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Auxiliary #50. Lyla enjoyed painting, sculpting figurines, fishing and watching the Minnesota Twins. She loved the ocean and traveled to Hawaii and Florida many times. Lyla courageously battled cancer for over 20 years. Lyla passed away at her home in Sisseton on June 30, 2023.
Lyla is survived by three sons, David Harris of Sisseton, S.D., Robert "Bobby" Harris of Moore, OK., and Glen Thomas "GT" Harris of Ocala, Fla; eight siblings, Jay Ruckdaschel, Marlene Isensee, Luella (Louie) Betterman, Donna Sherman, Earl Ruckdaschel, Betty (John) Maxe, Alvin (Susan) Ruckdaschel and Alice (Dan) Conklin; two grandchildren, Michael Harris and PJ Huff; and one great-grandson, Ryland Huff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, sister Barbara, brothers-in-law Sherman "Bob" Isensee, Tom Sherman and Ron Bollig and sisters-in-law Margaret "Tootie" Ruckdaschel and Michelle Robertson.
Our mother, sister and aunt loved us and was always the life of the party. We will miss your face.
