Funeral Service for Luella "Lu" Eggers, 95, of Sisseton, S.D. will be held on Friday August 9, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Joshua Knudsen officiating. Organist will be Michelle Greseth and soloist will be Cindy Marohl.  Pall Bears will be Lu's grandchildren, Nicole Clement, Tiffany Ryan, Robin Wooley, Ryan Wooley, Jenni Packard, Manndie Aas, Adam Aas, Ryan Chilson and Nicole Chilson. Honorary Pall Bears will be all Luella's Friends. Interment will be in Sisseton Cemetery Sisseton, S.D. There will be visitation on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M, followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation one prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday.

Luella "Lu" (Kemnitz) Wooley-Eggers was born on a farm north of Claire City, S.D. to August and Gladys (Tisch) Kemnitz, on April 7th, 1929. Lu attended school in Claire City. When the school closed after her freshman year, she transferred to Sisseton High School. She graduated in 1947 and, soon after, married Virgil Wooley. They made their home in Sisseton, S.D. Virgil and Lu were blessed with three wonderful children, Allayne, Duane, and Corinne. She loved her role as a homemaker, but when the children got older, she started working part time at Farmer's Union. Lu always made sure she was home when they got out of school. Virgil passed away in 1968 from cancer.

Lu then worked part time at Stavig's Department Store in the dry goods department, including fabric and patterns. She was an excellent seamstress and made a lot of clothes for herself and her children including a wedding dress for her daughter, Allayne.

In 1974, Lu married John Eggers and started working at the Rosholt Bank. Together they built a new home on his farm southeast of New Effington, S.D. John and Lu loved to snowmobile and put on a lot of miles on trails and lakes throughout the area. On any Saturday night, you could find them out dancing. John passed away in 1985 from a heart attack.

Lu moved back to Sisseton and collaborated with friends to form an interior painting business. They traveled around the tri-state area professionally painting for business and residential customers. The ladies soon earned a reputation for their attention to detail and quality solid work ethic. After being hired by the St. Francis Retreat Center of Hankinson, N.D., the ladies formed a beloved relationship with the Franciscan Sisters which lasted for years. Lu continued to keep in touch with the sisters via cards and newsletters; a relationship she treasured and valued.

Lu was quick to make friends with everyone, no matter where she was. She loved to catch up, talk smart and have a good laugh over a cold beverage with friends of all ages. Much like her friendship with the Franciscan Sisters, she treasured all her friends and acquaintances; socializing was a driving force in her life.

Lu enjoyed league bowling for many years, she traveled to and participated in multiple tournaments. Lu was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary #50. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and every Monday, rain, or shine, she joined the quilters there to cut fabric and socialize. Lu enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and watching PGA golf and soap operas on TV. She loved watching Molly B Polka Party every Saturday night. She also enjoyed spending time with her beloved dogs and companions, Lacy and Gracie.

Getting into trouble with her little sister, Arv, seemed to carry into their adult lives. They had many fun years of trips together to the State Fair in Huron, S.D. Arv also enlisted Lu's help at the Brown County Fair in Aberdeen for several years where they were known as regulars serving concessions and making friends. In 1993, Lu received the "Ed Korbel Volunteer of the Year" award from the Aberdeen Area Boys and Girls Club.

Time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren also brought her great joy. Lu was able to FaceTime with her daughter, Allayne and spend time with her children, Corinne and Duane, prior to her passing on Monday, July 22nd at Tekakwitha Living Center at the age of 95. To say she led a full life is an understatement. She had a zest for life and always made the best of every situation. Her inner and outer beauty never faded with the passage of time. Lu will be remembered for her sense of humor, her classy style, and her love for her family.

Lu is survived by her children Allayne Clement of Chelsea, Ma., Duane (Debbie) Wooley of Sisseton, S..D. and Corinne (Doug) Chilson of Brandon, S.D.; sister Arvilla Ingerson of Aberdeen, S.D.; grandchildren Nicole Clement, Tiffany (Chris) Ryan, Robin (Lori) Wooley, Ryan (Abby) Wooley, Jenni (Brandon) Packard, Manndie (Nick) Aas, Adam (Aubrey) Aas, Ryan (Emily) Chilson and Nicole Chilson; 14 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Judy (Calvin) Aas of Sisseton and Janice Myers of Santa Maria, CA  and many nieces and nephews.

Lu was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Wooley and husband John Eggers; her parents; her in-laws Wayne and Cora Wooley; her son-in-law, Dennis Clement; her great granddaughter, Kylie Aas; brothers-in-law, Charles Ingerson and David Myers; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Willis and Betty Wooley; Howard and Ardelle Arbach and Raymond and Marianne Petrick. Her beloved pets, Lacy and Gracie.
