Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, April 13,2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, South Dakota.

Funeral Mass for Luella George, 97, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, January 19,2024 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Fr. Gregg Frankman celebrant.  Organist will be Cindy Marohl and song leader will be Sandi Jaspers. Urn Bearer will be Phillip George and Honorary Urn Bearers will be all of Luella's Grandchildren. Inurnment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD at a later date. There will be visitation at the Cahill Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 18, from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 PM, then at St. Peter's Catholic Church at 6:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Luella Mary Ann Simonson was born to Ole and Beatrice (Benson) Simonson October 25,1926 at home in One Road Lake Township near Sisseton, SD. She attended rural school at One Road #1 and Sisseton High School. When Luella was about four years old, she thought she was helping her Aunt Borghild guide material through the sewing machine when the needle became stuck in her finger. Beatrice pulled Luella in a little wagon to her grandfather Peder Simonson's home, and he pulled out the needle with pliers. So, it would be correct to say that Luella started sewing at a young age.
Luella married Lloyd George on August 8, 1943, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sisseton.  They eventually moved to Hills Ranch in the fall of 1944 when Lloyd became manager of the ranching operation for A.W. Powell. Luella worked as a ranch wife, feeding many ranch hands, raising children, canning large quantities of food, and milking cows. Lloyd and Luella were charter members of the Hills and Valley Riding Club. They moved to Sisseton in 1967 after Lloyd developed health issues. Lloyd and Luella purchased Chef's Cafe in Sisseton and owned the business for about four years. Luella then worked at Landsberger Creamery during goose processing season. In 1971, Dakotah, a quilt company was started in Sisseton. Because it was a new company, Luella and other seamstresses sewed in Lloyd and Luella's home until they moved to another location. Luella was one of the founders of the company and was employed there for twenty years. Luella loved to sew and made quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
After retirement, she was able to travel to Norway with family, continue sewing, and compiling family tree information. She loved listening to the family sing Karaoke. Luella was very proud of her family. She enjoyed many family vacations with her children and grandchildren. Lloyd and Luella welcomed many into their home and always made sure that they had something to eat. Family favorites of Luella's cooking were her buns and buttermilk pancakes.
Lloyd and Luella were married for 58 years until Lloyd's death in 2001. Luella lived in her own home until age 91 when she entered Edgewood Assisted Living in Sisseton. She was a member of St. Peter's Church and Altar Society.
Luella passed away on January 13 at West Wind Village in Morris, MN.
She is survived by three sons Donald (Linda), Phillip (Julie), and Perry (Sheree); two daughters Shannon Larson and Sheri (Joel) Weig; grandchildren Lisa(Mike) Schlaffman, Terri(Jeff) Worner, Melissa (Jeff) Larson, Sarah(Jarod) Bierman, Meghan Ibarra, Katie Larson, Shelby(Dalton) Wagner, Ryan Carnes, and Jenna (Casey) Gerszewski; 11 great grandchildren; brothers Rodney Simonson and Kervin (Nancy) Simonson, sister-in-law Joyce Simonson, and many nieces and nephews.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents Ole and Beatrice Simonson, husband Lloyd, son Michael, son-in-law Gregory Larson, brothers Orris, Arden, and Burdell Simonson, and many other beloved family members.
