Obituary

Funeral Service for Lowell E. Anderson, 88, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 6:00 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Dwight Fearing officiating. Pallbearers will be Rodger Carlson, Michael Kurpius, Michael Lee, Brittany Kurpius, Jordan Kurpius, and Leslie Kurpius. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of the Staff at Tekakwitha Living Center. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, South Shore, SD on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342.
Lowell Elden Anderson was born on March 10, 1926 in South Shore, SD to Carl and Adelia (Schmeling) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, in South Shore. He graduated from South Shore High School with the class of 1944. Lowell enlisted in the Naval Reserve and served on active duty from March 4, 1944 until his honorable discharge July 19, 1946. He served in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific-Ribbon with one star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Victory Medal, and Japanese Occupation Ribbon, Following his discharge he went to work for Red Owl and Gamble Store in South Shore for nine years. Lowell was united in marriage to Ruth Carlson of Marvin, SD on March 15, 1947 in South Shore. They moved to Sisseton and he worked for different Dairy's until health problems forced him to change jobs. He went to work for the Sisseton Wahpeton Housing Authority for seventeen years. He retired for health reasons. Lowell passed away suddenly on October 7, 2014 at St. Francis Healthcare in Breckenridge, MN.
Lowell is survived by his wife, Ruth Anderson of Sisseton, SD; one daughter, Paula and Joe Lee of Wahpeton, ND; two grandchildren, Leslie and Michael Kupius, and great- grandchildren, Brittany and Jordan of Wahpeton, ND, and Michael and Jennifer Lee, and great-grandchildren, Jadyn, Mariah, and Andrew of Watertown, SD;
Lowell was preceded death by his parents and one brother Donald.
