Obituary

Funeral services for Loticia Barker, 70, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Wednesday, October, 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with Gerald Heminger Jr. CRE and Floyd Hart officiating. Interment will be at the Mayasan Presbyterian Cemetery, Claire City, SD. Organist will be Billy Kohl. Pallbearers will be Robert Irizarry, Merrith Irizarry, Buddy Simon, Phalen Azure, John Budack, Thomas German Sr., Ryan German, Connor Yellow Earrings, Wendell White Eyes and Jeff Jarman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Eric and Stacey Lablanc, Jamie German, Gina Morgan, Geneva Morisette, Izola Simon, Nicolette Simon, Gretta Simon, Crystal Renville, Josephine Doxtater, Debbie Hart, Lynda Michalek, Jeff Shepherd, Stacey Azure, Mayasan Elders, Tekakwitha Nursing Home Ladies, Hospice Nurses & Team and all members of Mayasan fast pitch softball team. Wake services will be held Monday October 17, 2022 from 7:00-10:00 P.M and Tuesday, October 18, 2022 all Night Wake starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Tribal Community Center. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Loticia was born on March 26, 1952 to Theresa Max and Wallace Ree in Sisseton SD. She went to grade school in Sisseton SD and later finished getting her GED. She proceeded to get her degree in business in Bismarck, ND & California.  After returning to Sisseton, she married Edwin J. Barker on April 4, 1981. They were divorced in 1989 and were remarried on October 30, 1998 in Sisseton, SD. Loticia worked at Tekakwitha Nursing Home for 20+ years where she later retired. Loticia was a member of Mayasan Presbyterian Church and was on the board of trustees. She was in hospice the last few months of her life. Her battle came to an end October 12, 2022 at her home with her family by her side.

Loticia is survived by Nieces Fiona Azure and Chantel Hart, Granddaughters; Kaleice Lablanc, Mabel Azure and Freya Azure, Sharey T Hayes and Milena Irizarry, Grandsons; Justin W. Hayes, Isiah Lablanc, Merrith Irizarry, Ashton Irizarry, and Nathaniel Blue; many nieces and nephews; Five sisters Sarina M. Budack, Audrey Beaver, Jewelle M. Hart, Angie RoanEagle, and Emily Yellow Earrings; 3 brothers Floyd K. Hart, Louis Winters Jr., and Richard Mason, Goddaughter; Melissa LaBlanc.

Loticia was preceded in death by her parents Wallace Ree and Theresa Max-Hart; her husband Edwin J. Barker; sons Darius J. Hayes and Nathaniel A. Hayes; daughter Jamie D. Barker, and many siblings.
