Funeral Service for Lorraine Phyllis Tyler, 90, formerly of Veblen, SD will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Veblen, SD with Pastor Karie Geyer officiating. Organist will be Coleen Halverson and special music by Jerry Nelson, Burt Glover, and Jim Vrchota. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Tyler, Aaron Tyler, Scott Tyler, Ethan Schmid, Travis Tyler, Brian Tyler, Michael Henning, Matt Hastings, and Nick Tyler. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Lorraine's granddaughters, great grandchildren and her one great-great grandson. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Veblen, SD in the spring. There will be visitation on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Lorraine Phyllis Nordstrom was born March 15, 1929 to Victor and Hazel (Fagerland) Nordstrom at her grandparents (Lars and Josephine Fagerland) home north of Sisseton.  She attended the Veblen public school.  At a young age she worked for the neighbor ladies during threshing time.  In 1946 Lorraine married the love of her life, Harold Tyler, in a double wedding with her sister Violet and George LaMoureaux.  Soon after their wedding they moved to St. Paul, MN and worked at Armour meat packing plant for a short time.  The Tylers moved to Stillwater, MN and worked at a home for the elderly (what we now call assisted living) where she did the cooking and canning for 54 residents.  She was still young and told of how she would cook, then go to her room and cry, and back to work she would go.  She became a wonderful cook, gardener, baker and homemaker in general.  In 1949 Harold bought a cattle truck and they moved back to Veblen.  He hauled livestock to Fargo, ND and to St. Paul.  One time and one time only, Lorraine hauled a load of cattle to Fargo, ND for him.  In 1953 they traded their truck in for a farm near Hillhead, SD, where they would live and raise their family of eight children making their living farming.  Some years after Harold's passing, Lorraine made her home at the assisted living in Sisseton, and eventually Tekakawitha Living Center. As her family grew up, she returned to the workforce and was happily employed at the Dakotah Quilting Center in Veblen.  She so enjoyed her job and working with many that would be her lifelong friends.  She was the unofficial photographer at company events, and known by many for capturing so many other special and everyday moments in a photo.  If she met you, she took your picture, and if she took your picture you were a friend.  The coffee pot was always on and nobody ever went away hungry.  If you were lucky, you popped in on a day where her famous raised doughnuts were freshly fried and glazed.  And if you were really lucky, the caramel rolls were baking in the oven! Lorraine enjoyed attending circle, gardening, canning, helping in the field, baking, dancing, sewing, crocheting, using her thousands of photos to create a treasured album for each of her children, beloved grandchildren and even the older great grandchildren.  She spent many hours crafting blankets and dolls to donate to charities for women, children, veterans and so many others in need.  Participating in the Hillhead Birthday Club gatherings also brought her years of joy as did square dancing club.   Lorraine Phyllis Tyler, 90, Sisseton, SD formerly of Veblen, SD passed away January 3, 2020 at Tekakwitha Living Center.
Survivors include her children; Larry (Lois) Tyler, Hillhead; Gary (Jane) Tyler, Britton; Mina (Pete) Schmid, Sisseton; Dwight (Becky) Tyler, Hillhead; Jeffery (Judy)Tyler, Forman, ND; Gayle (Mike) Hastings, Britton and Raymond (Sari) Tyler, Berthoud, CO; 26 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson, Cohen Michael; her brother Billy (Dona) Nordstrom, Veblen; sister Violet LaMoureaux, Sisseton and so many special nieces and nephews and countless friends that were really like family.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents Victor and Hazel, her son Robert Tyler and 3 infant grandchildren.
