Lorraine Agnes McKee was born on May 30, 1930, to Parlin and Caroline (Lotzer) McKee. She attended first grade in a country school. Her family moved to Sisseton where she attended St Peter's Parochial School and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1948. On November 20, 1950, Lorraine married Gordon Stapleton and together they farmed and raised a family north of Sisseton.
At age 16 Lorraine was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. After raising the children, she worked at the Roberts County Agricultural Service office and at First Federal Savings and Loan.
Lorraine enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, embroidering, golfing, bowling, playing cards and tenderly caring for her many flower gardens. She loved having the entire family at their home for the holidays, especially Christmas, doing detailed decorating that made us all appreciate her many talents. As a loving couple they enjoyed bus trips across the States and Canada and attended numerous activities of all her grandchildren including SHS, Watertown, Lake Region, Rainy River and SDSU Jackrabbit basketball games.
Lorraine passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, at Edgewood Assisted Living Center surrounded by her family.
Lorraine is survived by her husband of nearly 74 years, Gordon; three children, Carolea (Rick) Smith of Watertown, SD; Colette (Robert) Hull of Sisseton, SD; and Dana (Julie) Stapleton of Sisseton, SD; six grandchildren, Alexys Thorson of Watertown, SD; Chris (Kelli) Smith of Brookings, SD; Andree Hull (Jeff Klein) of Moorhead, MN; Dawn Hull of Sioux Falls, SD; Hope Christenson (Adam Buller) of Britton, SD; Tanner (Savanna) Stapleton of Sisseton, SD; and ten great-grandchildren, Rylee and Damon Thorson, Austin and Leah Smith, Trey, Tyler and Abby Horner, Everly Zahn, Emily and Katelyn Christenson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Terry and infant daughter, Cathy Ann; her sisters-in-law, Gladys (Leonard) Pickthorn and Lavern (Milton) Stavig, and many aunts and uncles.
The family would like to give a very special thank you to Dr. Gallagher, the staffs at Edgewood Assisted Living Center, CDP Hospital, and Prairie Lakes Hospice for their tender loving care.
