Lorna Behrns, 61, of Peever, SD passed away on October 19, 2018 at her home. Memorial Service for Lorna Behrns, 61, of Peever, SD will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Peever Community Center, Peever, SD with the Rev. Sheila Pohl and Levi Waddell officiating. Honorary Urn bearers will be Past & Present Members of The Hills & Valley Riding Club.  Inurnment will be in Peever Cemetery, Peever, SD at a later date.

Lorna Rea Behrns was born on August 24, 1957 to Helen and Mike Fleischhacker of Sisseton, SD. She graduated from Sisseton High School in 1975 and married David Behrns, of Peever, SD on February 14, 1976.

Lorna grew up in the hills west of Sisseton on a small ranch where horses were the main mode of transportation. At 15, she met David at The Ranch in Sisseton. Apparently David was not a natural born dancer because they had to take lessons, and lots of practice, to become as good as they were. Almost everyone loved watching their love shine through the steps to the music. She excelled at sewing, one of her many talents, and started her life of hard work at 16 at the Dakotah Company plant in Sisseton.

In 1981, David and Lorna bought a dairy farm. It didn't take them long to discover that Lorna was the better herdsman and she spent 21 years improving the dairy herd along with adding several different types of animals to the farm.

She was a self taught leather worker and won many awards. Where she found the time, we will never know. She entered her first national leather working show as a novice, but came out a master because of her talent and skill. She has made everything from belts and billfolds to rodeo queen dresses and saddles. The biker belts for the Sturgis Bike Rally's 50th Anniversary was probably her biggest undertaking and the one that spread her leather work the furthest.

In 1983, Michelle Lynne was born and a little over a year later, Clinton Wells joined and the family was complete. Bundles of joy bring mountains for work for 'club moms' and Lorna was an amazing one. She spent a majority of her free time hauling kids and animals to 4-H, Hills and Valley Riding Club, and Teen Age Republican events all over the state. She loved helping children with her Cowboy Santa persona, helping raise money for horse-related kid events and awards.

Right before Christmas in 2002, the family decided to sell the cows. Lorna always said she wasn't going to continue to milk cows after losing the free slave labor, also known as Clint and Michelle. After a couple of months of 'retirement' she decided raising puppies was a better occupation then going to town for a job and started Cowpounder Kennel. It took a while to determine that goldendoodles were her best breed but it only took a few years before they started selling themselves. Her puppies are widely known in the tri-state area and are living as far away as California to New York and Alaska to Florida.

Lorna Rea is survived by her parents, Helen Huff of Sisseton, and Mike Fleischhacker of Wilmot, her mother-in-law, Alpha Behrns of Peever, her husband, David Behrns of Peever,  daughter, Michelle Behrns of Peever, and her son, Clinton Behrns of St. Louis, MO along with several siblings, step siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles.
