Funeral Service for Lois Jean Evenson, 71, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Family Life Assembly of God Church, Sisseton, SD. Pastor Vern Donnell and Pastor Bob Beasley will be officiating. Organist will be Gloria Slaamot and soloist Krystal Williams. Pallbearers will be Greg Evenson, Jon Donnell, Craig Evenson, Jerel Holloway, Dan Donnell, David Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers will be "all of Lois's family and friends". Inurnment will be at a later date. There will be visitation on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7 PM prayer service at the Family Life Assembly of God Church and one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday at the church.
Lois Jean Schmidt was born on August 10, 1940 in Camden, New Jersey to Harry and Jenny (McGee) Schmidt. She grew up in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania area and graduated from Camden High School in 1958. She worked at First Philadelphia Savings and Loan. On May 8, 1965 she was united in marriage to Edward Evenson in Camden, NJ. They moved to the Sisseton Area where they made their home and raised their family. She was a homemaker, daycare provider, and a cook for the Sisseton Public School and the Boys and Girls Club. Lois enjoyed crocheting, needle point, sewing, collecting antiques, she was an avid reader, and enjoyed talking on the phone. She was a foster parent to over 70 children. Lois belonged to the Extension Club, Christian Women, Women's Ministry at Church, and was a past Sunday School Superintendant. She traveled to Ireland and Ecuador and throughout the United States. Lois passed away on December 20, 2011 at the Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD.
Lois is survived by her husband Edward, four sons, Eddie Evenson Jr of Sisseton, SD Jonathan Evenson of Sisseton, SD, Joseph Evenson of Doland, SD, Daniel Evenson of Sisseton, SD; four daughters Pastor Jennie Lynn Evenson of Sisseton, SD, Linda Lewis of New Prague, MN, Dee Dee Hisgun of Burnsville, MN, and Cherell Keeble of Sisseton, SD; two brothers, Harry and wife Ruth Schmidt of Pine Hill, NJ, and Paul and wife Laura Schmidt of Laotto, IN; One Sister in-law Linda Schmidt of Sisseton, SD; seven granddaughters and 3 grandsons; five exchange students, Sumi Hoshino of Japan, Karen and husband Eduardo Pavon of Portland, OR, Jordana (Gene) Engebretson of AK, "Poncho" Fransisco Alberan of Mexico and Sergio Pilar Angulo of Brazil.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Richard Schmidt and one Sister Kay Gray.
