Obituary

Funeral Service for Lloyd M. Bakke, 83 of Sisseton, SD, will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at FamilyLife Assembly of God Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Vern Donnell officiating. Special music by Gloria Slaamot, June and Richard Evenson. Pallbearers will Randy Almos, Dale Bakke, Ken Hovland, Norm Tchida, Irv Slaamot, and Gordon Fordahl. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Lloyd's Friends and Relatives. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD with military rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be visitation on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to the Funeral Services at the Church on Wednesday. Lloyd was born on March 7, 1928 in Sisseton, SD to Einar and Lena (Hellevang) Bakke. He grew up and attended Long Hollow Country School. Following his education he helped his parents of the family farm. Lloyd entered the United States Army in April 12, 1951 and served until April 2, 1953. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal W/1BSS, and the United Nations Service Medal with 1 O/S Bar. Following his discharge he worked with his father on the farm. Lloyd was united in marriage to Janet Hovland on April 19, 1959 at Roslyn Lutheran Church. The couple continued to farm the family farm until 1983 when they moved to Aberdeen, SD, where they managed two motels. After returning to Sisseton, Lloyd worked for Sisseton Super Valu and the Sisseton Livestock Auction. He also worked for the McCleerey Family and the Evenson Family on the farm. He loved to play and listen to music. He was a longtime member of the FamilyLife Assembly of God church. Lloyd was a member of Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. Lloyd passed away peacefully at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD on June 4, 2011.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Janet Bakke of Sisseton, SD; one son, Donald and wife, Darlene Bakke of Arlington, VA; one daughter-in-law, Sheryl Strandberg of Watertown, SD; one brother, George and wife, Shirley Bakke of Aberdeen, SD; four granddaughters; and one great granddaughter.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Glen and Mark; two brothers, Elmer and Peter Bakke; and four sisters, Ann, Agnes, Esther and Myrtle.
