Obituary

Funeral Service for Linda Lou (Driver) Crawford, 72, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022 at Noon at the Sisseton Wahpeton Traditional Burial Grounds with Spiritual Leaders Wambdi Cook and Ray Eastman officiating. All singers invited.   Pallbearers will be T.J. Max, Johnny LaBatte, Isaiah Deutsch, Patrick Deutsch Jr., Darwin Bernard,   Wakanyan Inazin Bertsch.   Honorary Pallbearers will be Lois Jackson, Joyce Country, Pat Gill, Marie Renville, Nina Cook, Paula Horne, Diane Desrosiers, Edwina Bernard, Carol Iron Moccasin, Lisa Redwing and Sherry Johnson. Interment will be at the Sisseton Wahpeton Traditional Burial Grounds, Sisseton, SD. There will be an all night Wake Service on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at the Sisseton Wahpeton Community College Auditorium, Agency Village, SD starting at 7:00 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.

Linda Lou (Driver) Crawford was born on May 14, 1950 in Sisseton, SD to Caroline Driver. After her mother's death in 1958 she was raised by her grandparents Moses and Lena (Max) Driver. She attended B.I.A. and missionary boarding schools, such as Wahpeton Indian School and Tekakwitha Orphanage. She graduated from high school in Oakland, California in June 1968. In 1971, she married Dale Crawford and they resided in Wahpeton, ND until 1975, when they moved to Lawrence, Kansas to attend Haskell Indian Junior College. After receiving their A.A. degrees, they moved to Vermillion, SD to pursue their B.A. degrees in Social Work. After obtaining their degrees, they moved back to Sisseton in 1979. In 1981, Dale and Linda helped start the Buffalo Lake Sundance, which still continues to this day. Living and practicing her Dakota way of life was her greatest teaching that she passed down to her family. In 1991, Linda received her Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. During Linda's career she was employed with the Child Protection Program, Indian Health Service and Tiospa Zina Tribal School. Linda enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, taking photos and working on photo albums, sewing, journaling, reading (she had a book collection of Native American authors). She enjoyed going to thrift stores and rummage sales. Linda passed away on June 17, 2022 at her home in Sisseton, SD.

Linda is survived by two sons Darren Crawford of Sisseton, SD and Vernie Driver Jr. of Watertown, SD; four daughters Mindy Crawford, Jackie Crawford, Terri Crawford all of Sisseton, SD and Vanessa Driver of Watertown, SD; three sisters Pat Ocquera, Lois Smith and Janell Cook all of Sisseton; and one brother Russell Smith of Sisseton, SD; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Linda was preceded in death by her mother Caroline Driver; her husband Dale Crawford; her grandparents Moses and Lena (Max) Driver; and an Uncle Vernie Driver.
