Funeral Service for Lewis Dean Goodbird, 68, of Bloomington, MN will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with Filmore Simon CLP Officiating. Pianist will be Kay Bursheim. Pallbearers will be Eli Goodbird, Emerson Mandan, Romeo Renville, Mickey Renville, Sam Flying Hawk, Dan Flying Hawk, Neil Goodbird, Arnold Goodbird, Kevin Jones, and Loren Greeley Jr.. Interment will be at Mayasan Presbyterian Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Military Rites by the Kit Fox Society. Wake Services will be Wednesday, August 7, 2013 and Thursday August 8, 2013 starting at 7:00 PM at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, South Dakota. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Lewis Dean Goodbird was born August 21, 1944 to Eli Goodbird and Julia Frenier. He left home when he was 5 years old to Portland, Oregon to live with his Aunt who had no children and came back to South Dakota when he was 15. He graduated from Sisseton high School. After graduating he than joined the U.S. Army from June 28, 1966 to December 18, 1967 he earned a National Defense Metal, and was honorably discharged. He then moved to San Francisco, CA and began his schooling and attended college there, where he received his A.A. Degree. Returning to Minneapolis, MN, in 1988 where he lived out his remaining days. He worked in various offices all over Minneapolis until his illness forced him to stop working. He traveled to many, many, Pow-wow's all over the U.S. and was blessed with a beading talent. He was well liked and known for his sense of humor
Lewis is survived by his sisters Martha Mandan of Sisseton, SD and Josephine Doxtator of Onida, WI; Sister In-law Patty Turner of Sisseton, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents Eli Goodbird and Julia Frenier; Brothers LeRoy Day, Larry Goodbird, and Joseph Day.
