Memorial Service for Lester F. Hanssen, 96 years old, of Summit, SD will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Sisseton City Hall Community Room, 406 2 ^nd Ave West, Sisseton, SD with Janet Klenk and Jolene Krisher officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to the Memorial Service. Inurnment will be Mount Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD at a later date.  The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Lester was the son of Fred and Dena (Janssen) Hanssen and was born November 17 ^th , 1925, near rural Emery, SD. He attended Emery school, graduating in 1943. He was united in marriage to Minerva (Zelmer) Hanssen September 4 ^th , 1945. They resided initially in Emery, moving a year later to Mitchell, SD. They settled in 1950 on a farm near Naples, SD. Their final move was to a farm near Summit, SD in April of 1958. They purchased a winter home in Sun City, AZ in 1991 where they spent many good winters. Lester, as well as working on the farm, spent many years as a life insurance salesman on the road. Many people still remember his Lester Hanssen Insurance sign he himself painted that stood in front of their farm place. He was known to be an avid painter and spent many hours painting or playing the piano by ear and singing along. His love of music was as well known as his love of ice cream. His freezer was always known to have a gallon stored in it. If you stopped by the farm, be prepared to be fed and sit awhile to enjoy his monster collection of photo slides. Just wait for the one that is upside down.  It was sure to be there! Lester passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Wilmot Care Center, Wilmot, SD.

Lester is survived by his sister Iva Pfeifer, Mesa, AZ; 4 children, Sherman (Elva) Hanssen, Ormond Beach, FL, Lloyd (Rosemarie) Hanssen, Peever, SD, Curtis(Margaret) Hanssen, Summit, SD, Butch(Robin)Hanssen, Sioux Falls, SD; 9 Grandchildren;  10 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Minerva in 2017, his Brother Elmer Hanssen, Sister Gladys Reinesch and granddaughter Wendy Hanssen.
