Funeral Mass for Leslie Joseph Barse Jr.Ta Cancega Wakan "His drum is sacred", 52 of Sisseton, SD will be held on December 18, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Gregg Frankman officiating. Pallbearers will be Stan Barse Jr., Jacob Barse, Troy Barse, Philip Barse, Jay Barse, Lawren Barse, Dusty Barse, Christian Barse, Atreyu Renville, Tyson Labatte, Daniel Labatte, Gus (Terrance) Robertson, Cory Renville, Larry Finley Jr., Larry (Jim) Finley Sr. and Sleepy (Seneca) Eagleman. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be at Wake Service at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Hall on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 7:00 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Leslie Joseph Barse Jr. was the first born to parents, Leslie Sr. & Kathy (Eagle) Barse after three hard days of labor on a cold and sunny afternoon, January 12, 1968 at Sisseton, SD.

He was born feet first and took on life with an attitude of 'hit the ground running.

As a young boy he excelled in school, becoming quite popular among his peers. In high school he was outrageous, outgoing, charismatic, deciding at a young age that he could live an emancipated life as he demonstrated taking care of himself. Once going to California for a semester of high school.

But, Jr always remembered his way home.

Les Jr. spent his youth developing his love of music through various instruments that he taught himself, starting with a trumpet. According to beloved cousin Michelle, Les Jr. listened intently to his uncle Tommy singing and playing pow wow music.  A Drummer was born. At the age of twelve he received his first drum kit that he learned to play by ear. After listening to a song through snippets, he'd have it down pat.  Les Jr. was thirteen years old when he joined his first rock band, Les Sr. would have to take him to gigs since he was too young to be in any bars. During this time he was known for his version of a song called, 'Wipe Out' and would pack a dance floor, many an elder could throw a hip out trying to keep up. He became known for his young age and agility to pound the skins louder and faster than his older contemporaries. Les Jr. would go on to form lifelong friendships and brotherhoods through various rock  bands during his younger years, most still carry through to this day and many believe now in heaven with his rock 'n roll brothers who've gone on before him. In 1985, a beautiful love child was born to Les Jr. and Lori Anderson, Jaimie Lynn. Whom he adores to this day. The following year Les Jr. met the love of his life, Rochelle. In 1987 they started a family with the birth of Jay Leslie, followed by daughters Jordyn Lynell, Jasmine Lacey, Jermaine Lindsay, Jaynie LaRae and a chosen son, Jayden Loris (JoJo). Les Jr. thought the world of his children and affectionately gave each a nickname, in which he always referred to them. Throughout his adult life Les Jr. worked at our various casinos in various positions. When live bands fell out of favor for DJ's, he continued his love of music as an entertainment and radio DJ. He loved to be onstage entertaining people, putting on a good show and allowing people to step out of their normal lives for a moment of fun. Les Jr's love of family and friends was immense, he could walk into a room and make friends with ease. Most if not all friendships have lasted and transcended time. There isn't anything he wouldn't do to help a friend or family member out, taking in many to sleep on his sofa or spare room or to even share a meal. Les Jr. had a way of taking others pain and internalizing through tributes in the form of music. His dedications came in the form of short and to the point of heartfelt sentiments.

Les Jr. is survived by his loving wife, Rochelle. Daughters, Jaimie Lynn, Jasmine Lacey, Jermaine Lindsay, Jaynie LaRae. Sons, Jay Leslie and Jayden Loris. Along with his 22 grandchildren. Les Jr. was preceded in death by his Daughter Jordyn Lynell. Father, Leslie Joseph Sr. Sister, Loni Violet (Barse) Robertson. Paternal Grandparents, Frank (Jack) and Violet Barse. Maternal Grandparents, Elijah and Clara Eagle. Special Aunts Thedora (Teddy) and Anne Marie Eagle
