Graveside funeral services for LeRoy Duane Vig, 85, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at the Goodwill Cemetery, rural Sisseton, SD with Pastor Vern Donnell officiating. Military Rites will be provided by Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and the Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements
We lost our beloved dad, and devoted husband, to Doris on Tuesday, December 9th, 2014, at the age of 85. LeRoy was born to Ole and Marie (Greenlea) Vig on August 25, 1929 near Sisseton, South Dakota. He lived and farmed in the Sisseton area until he was drafted into the Korean War in 1953. LeRoy and Doris made their home in Southern California where they raised their two children and he worked in the energy and aerospace industries as a machinist, shop foreman, and Tooling Engineer. In 2003, they returned to Sisseton after retiring. For the past few years, LeRoy resided at the Golden Living Center in Groton due to advanced Alzheimer's disease.
LeRoy had two great loves in his life; his family and his faith. He was a devoted Christian man who worked hard his entire life. He enjoyed singing hymns, reading the bible, praying for others, playing several string instruments, fixing machinery, and telling jokes while, above all, caring and caretaking for his family.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife, Doris (Knudtson) Vig who passed away on July 08, 2014. The day he departed this earth to be reunited with her was their 64th wedding anniversary. He leaves behind his son, Joel Vig of Cocoa, Florida and his daughter Carrie Mowry of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
In memory of LeRoy, the family asks that any donations be made to the Alzheimer's Care Unit at the Golden Living Center in Groton, South Dakota where the loving staff cared for him so wonderfully.
