Obituary

Funeral Service for LeRoy "Sonny" A. Quinn, Sr. 87 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Pastor Dwight Fearing and Pastor Vern Donnell officiating. Organist will be Gloria Slaamot. Pallbearers will be Terri, Tanya, Dustin, Landon, Trisha, Marc, Verlyn, Michelle, Patrick Jr., Brandon, Michael, Melvin Jr., Shanda, Briana, Weston, Randi, Amanda, Darrell Jr., Ashley, Justin, Michaela, Maegan, and Konnor. Honorary Pallbearers will be Fr. Les Campbell, Vernon Cloud, Linda Kriz, Pete Rabenberg, Dr. Judy Beumer, Tekakwitha Nursing Center Staff, All of LeRoy's Auctioneer and Auction Friends, All of LeRoy's Great Grandchildren and the Quinn-Kohl Family. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Wake Service will be held at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 28, 2013. There will be visitation one hour prior to the Funeral on Monday at the Grace Lutheran Church.
LeRoy Allen Quinn was born on February 16, 1926 in Day County, South Dakota to Henry and Mabel (Campbell) Quinn. LeRoy was baptized at St. James' Episcopal Church, Enemy Swim. LeRoy went to school at Breske Country School. Following his education LeRoy was united in marriage to Louella Wanna on March 2, 1946 in Sisseton, SD. LeRoy attended Hanson Mechanical Trade School and received his diploma on June 4, 1959. LeRoy farmed for many years. He was a bus driver and maintenance supervisor for the Sisseton Public School for about twenty years. LeRoy also worked for fifteen years for Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe as Tribal Roads and Manpower Manager until he retired to take care of his wife, Louella. He had a used furniture store where he enjoyed re-finishing antiques. LeRoy enjoyed auctions, and his grandchildren's sports activities. He was a Viking and Twins Fan. He enjoyed playing baseball, pool, card games, cooking, reading the Bible, hunting, trapping and fishing. LeRoy served on the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribal Council from 1961 to 1962 and from 1985 to 1986. LeRoy gave his life to the Lord in 1982. LeRoy passed away on July 25, 2013 at the Tekakwitha Living Center surrounded by his loving family.
LeRoy is survived by two sons, LeRoy Quinn Jr. of Sisseton, SD, Darrell and wife, Robin Quinn Sr. of Sisseton, SD; six daughters, Mavis Quinn of Sisseton, SD, Marlys Beaudreau of Sisseton, SD, Carol and husband, Melvin Clifford Sr. of North Sioux City, SD, Pamela Quinn of Sisseton, SD, Francelia Quinn of Sisseton, SD, and Tami and husband, Johnny Seiber of Sisseton, SD; twenty three grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Louis Quinn of Sisseton, SD and Moses Quinn Sr. of Sisseton, SD, and a granddaughter that they raised, Terri Quinn Brooks of Sisseton, SD.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louella; one daughter, Marilyn; one son, Verlyn; three sisters and four brothers.
