Funeral Service for Leonard A. Johnson, 82 of Eden, SD will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church, rural Eden, SD with the Rev. Dick Grorud officiating. Organist will be Sheila Oreskovich. Pallbearers will be Chris Anderson, Donnie Almos, Rory Iverson, Luther Engevik, Maurice Engevik, and Jim Janisch. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Leonard's Friends & Neighbors. Interment will be in the Buffalo Lake Lutheran Cemetery. There will be visitation on Friday at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Leonard was born on November 7, 1929 near Eden, SD to Lawrence and Bertha (Peterson) Johnson. He attended Buffalo Lake Country School and was a longtime member of Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church. Leonard worked as a hired hand for local farmers and ranchers as well as working road construction until he settled down to farming and ranching. He was married to Norma Alice Nordstrom on May 27, 1953. For many years he worked as a special deputy and also worked security for the Ranch dance hall in Sisseton. Leonard was quite fond of finding interesting rocks wherever he went, and some went into rock gardens and others, once polished, became jewelry. He also enjoyed attending auctions and sales throughout the area. Leonard passed away on May 19, 2012 at the Coteau Des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD.
Leonard is survived by his children, Suzanne and David Gordon of Medina, MN, James and Rachael Johnson of Sisseton, SD two grandchildren Amanda Johnson and Tyler Johnson of Sisseton, SD, two sisters, Bernice Rowland of Fountain Inn, SC and Eunice Kroulik of Minneapolis, MN, one brother Edward and Daisy Johnson of Pioneertown, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant daughter Linda, two sisters, Barbara and Esther, and two brothers, Everett and Evan.
