Memorial services for Leonard Florian Gruby, 85, of Eden, SD will be on Wednesday, July 25 ^th , 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church, Eden, SD with Rev. Fr. Brian Simon as the celebrant. Organist will be Mary Wagner with special music by Sacred Heart Choir. Urn bearer will be Leonard's grandson; Kyle Kellner. Honorary urn bearers will be Leonard's five granddaughters; Nichole, Tanya, Jena, Courtney, and Brooke. Inurnment will be in the St. Michael's Cemetery, Eden, SD. There will be memorial visitation from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Scripture and Rosary Service on Tuesday, July 24 ^th . 2018 at 7:00 P.M. at Sacred Heart Church, Eden, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.

Leonard Florian Gruby was born January 22, 1933, to August R. and Verna (Gochowski) Gruby in Roberts County, South Dakota.

On June 8, 1954, he was united in marriage to Virginia Soldatke in Grenville, South Dakota. To their marriage they had six children: Son; Thomas (Chrissie) Gruby of Leonardtown, MD, Daughters; Barbara (Harvey) Michlitsch, Spearfish, SD; Carol (John) Brausen of Shakopee, MN; Joyce (Manuel) Almazan of Eagan, MN; Don (Phyllis) Gruby, Maple Grove, MN and Len (Michelle) Gruby, Andover, MN.

He attended country school until 8 ^th grade and upon adulthood worked at the Sisseton Creamery making butter.     In October 1964, he and his family moved to Eden, South Dakota where he began his career as a Standard Oil/Amoco bulk delivery agent who delivered home and agricultural fuels. He retired April 1, 1996.

Leonard was known for his ice fishing abilities and catching the biggest fish. He was mechanically minded and could fix anything. He loved his politics.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and was on the volunteer Eden Community Fire Department for 32 years where he served as Fire Chief for 18 years.

He is survived by his wife; Virginia of 64 years; sons; Thomas (Chrissie) Gruby of Leonardtown, MD, Don (Phyllis) Gruby of Maple Grove, MN, Len (Michelle) Gruby of Andover, MN ; daughters; Barbara (Harvey) Michlitsch of Spearfish, SD, Carol (John) Brausen of Shakopee, MN, and Joyce (Manuel) Almazan of Eagan, MN; grandchildren; Nichole (Kris) Lapado and son Jackson, Tanya (Jeff) Shafer and daughter Hadley, Kyle (Stephanie) Kellner and Alex and Owen, Jena Howe and son Camden, Courtney (James) Henry and son Thomas and daughter Lily and Brooke Gruby; Sisters Patty, Irene, Sally, Margie; brothers Edward, Sylvester and Emil and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death: His parents; August and Verna Gruby, brothers Paul & David, sister; Georgeane and great grandson; Paxton Shafer.
