Obituary

Funeral Service for Leona E. Rockensock, 82, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 11:00 A. M. at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, South Dakota with John Cloud III, Senior Catechist and Frank Barse Jr., Lay Reader officiating. Organist will be Kay Bursheim. Pallbearers will be Tracy Renville, Les Barse Jr., Richard Rockensock, Mike LaFontaine, Arlen Renville and Mark Shindelbower. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carole Adams. Connie Demarrias, Anthony Rockensock, Troy Paumen, Paulette Cloud, Ione Lufkins, Richinda Hill, Louise Jones, Marsha Renville, Sophronia Crawford, Diane Mireau, and Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Redearth. There will be an all-night wake service on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 7:00 P.M. at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, South Dakota.
Leona was born on January 2, 1931 at Peever, South Dakota to Ephraim and Mae (Sing) Redearth. She attended school at the Wahpeton Indian School. Following high school she moved to Minneapolis where she received her CNA nursing degree. She was united in marriage and had 2 daughters. She worked at Fairview Hospital, Richfield MN and she also worked for over 20 years for the City of Minneapolis in School Health Screening and Minneapolis Convention Center. After retiring she moved to Sisseton and made her home. She was an avid reader, loved visiting with family and friends, playing cards, bingo and slot machines. Leona passed away on November 2, 2013 at Vibra Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Leona is survived by two daughters, Sharon Rockensock and Michelle Rockensock, both of Duluth, MN; two sisters, Yvonne Redearth of Peever, SD and Irma Redearth of New Brighton, MN; two brothers, Curtis Redearth of Minneapolis, MN and Ephraim Redearth Jr. of Sisseton, SD; nine grandchildren, Anthony Rockensock, Richard Rockensock, Tracy Rockensock, Selena Rockensock, Cecily and Adriana Cortes, Jessica Esquivel, Vanessa and Sherridan Leith, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Pauline Jones, Corrine Mattilla, and Rosemary Redearth; and one granddaughter, Annalicia Michelle Rockensock.
