Funeral Mass for Leo Dennis Stapleton, 68 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Norm Volk Celebrant. Organist will be Colette Hull and song leader will be Sherman Hannasch. Pallbearers will be Glen Hull, Robert Hull, Louie Vogel, Mike Stapleton, Larry Goette, and Harry Moshier. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. Visitation will be on Friday, March 9, 2012 from 3 to 7 PM at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD.
Leo Dennis Stapleton was born on May 25, 1943 in Duluth, MN to Leo and Esther (Olson) Stapleton. He attended St. Peter's Catholic School and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1961. He served in the United States Navy from February of 1962 to June of 1966. He received the Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. Following his discharge from the service he attended South Dakota State University and earned a degree in Sociology in 1970. He married Nancy Taggart in 1967. They moved to Seattle Washington, where he worked as the Operations and Maintenance Supervisor at Northgate Mall. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball, football and playing horseshoes. In 2000 Leo moved back to Sisseton. He entered Tekakwitha Nursing Center in October 2007. Leo passed away on March 7, 2012 at Tekakwitha Nursing Center, Sisseton, SD.
Leo is survived by his two sons, Leo Jeffrey and Nicole Stapleton and their three children, Ellie, Leo Joseph, and Thomas Stapleton of Seattle, WA and Dennis and Mali Stapleton and their son Evan Stapleton of Blaine, WA, one sister Patty and husband, Mel Dunn of Casper, WY, and their two children, Melanie Dunn and Michelle Holmes, one brother Paul Stapleton and friend Anita Olson of Sisseton.
