Funeral Service for LaVonne Annette Hellwig,74, of Sisseton, SD will be held on August 25, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Family Life Assembly of God Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Vern Donnell and Rev. Darcy Ready officiating. Organist will be Ember Dady with special music by Kathie and Jim Konsor. Pallbearers will be Tyler Hellwig, Ryan Hellwig, Hayden Hellwig, Troy Hellwig, Oliver Hellwig and Jon Nordby. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of LaVonne's Friends, Family, and the Staff at Tekakwitha Living Center. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 6:00 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of Funeral arrangements. LaVonne was born on March 29, 1943 at the Sisseton Hospital to Melvin and Vera (Donahue) Fossum. She grew up and attended school in Sisseton and graduated High School in 1961. She attended Cosmetology school in Aberdeen, SD. Following graduation she moved back to Sisseton where she was a hair stylist. She was united in marriage to LeRoy Hellwig, the love of her life, on November 8, 1962. They were blessed with two children, Kim and Blaine. She was a Delegate to the National Republican Convention where they nominated Ronald Reagan as the Republican Presidential nominee. She was involved in the local Lincoln Day Dinner, which gave her so much joy. She continued to be involved in local political activities throughout her life. LaVonne was an awesome woman blessed with many talents and interests. She loved creating Norwegian needlework, "Hardanger", and making beautiful quilts. She loved her flower gardens and playing bridge. She was an excellent cook making Klube, lefsa, candy, mints, green soup, and a family favorite Cheese Buttons. She also made and painted ceramics and also did wood carving. She cared deeply for family and friends and gifted them generously with her talents and treats. She was a generous lady always willing to lend a helping hand with community activities with years of involvement at the Stavig House where she donated many hours cooking, decorating and planning activities. She was always passionate about everything she got involved in and gave 110%. She was a Mary Kay Consultant and there again she was "all in" working so hard she received honors at a Mary Kay convention in Dallas Texas. LaVonne was a member of Family Life Assembly of God Church. LaVonne had an undying faith and loved serving her Lord. She wanted everyone to know and love the Lord as she did. She was truly a child of GOD. She was so loved by all who knew her and she will be missed more than words can convey. LaVonne passed away on August 19, 2017 at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD. She is survived by her husband, LeRoy Hellwig of Sisseton, SD; two children. Kim (Jon) Nordby of Monument, Colorado and Blaine (Becky) Hellwig of Sisseton, SD; 4 grandsons, Tyler Hellwig (Heather), Ryan Hellwig (Tannah), Hayden Hellwig and Oliver Hellwig, all of Sisseton, SD and 1 great-granddaughter Aleigha Hellwig of Sisseton, SD and one brother Vernon Fossum of the Philippines. LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Vera Fossum; two sisters Gloria Callen and Darlene Hansen, brother-in-law Gene Hellwig, and daughter-in-law Donna Hellwig. |
