Funeral Service for LaVerne Fisher, 81 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD. with the Rev. Suzanne Benidt officiating. Organist will be Carolyn Fladland and soloist will be Gary Pederson. Pallbearers will be Steve Finnesand, Mike Miller, Clayton Pederson, Gary Pederson, Brian Leverson and Tim Leverson. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be visitation on Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD and one hour prior to the funeral on Friday at the church. LaVerne William Fisher was born on July 24, 1929 in Watertown, SD to Lloyd and Iva (Roe) Fisher. He attended grade school for six years in Watertown. At a young age they moved to a ranch in One Road Township and LaVerne attended two years of school at One Road Township. He then helped his folks with the Fisher Directory Service. On February 4, 1954 he entered the Army. While in the Army LaVerne was united in marriage to Ina Lou Pederson on June 26, 1954 at Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Hammer, SD. They lived at Lawton, OK for nine months where LaVerne was stationed. In 1955 when LaVerne went to Germany, Ina Lou returned home. LaVerne was discharged on January 16, 1956. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and Good Conduct Medal. After his discharge in 1956 they moved to a farm in Enterprise Township. In 1961, along with cattle, sheep and farming, they went into the business of buying and selling of new and used machinery. In 1962, they bought a farm in Enterprise Township four miles south of Claire City, where LaVerne still resided. He was a member of Nidaros Lutheran Church and later transferred to the First Lutheran Church, Claire City, SD. LaVerne was a life time member of the Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342 and a member of the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50. Laverne's hobbies were buying, selling and fixing equipment. He also enjoyed collecting toy machinery. LaVerne entered the VA Hospital, Fargo, ND in the spring of 2011 after a lengthy illness. He passed away on June 27, 2011 at the VA Hospital, Fargo, ND.
LaVerne is survived by two brother-in-laws, Byron and Carol Pederson of Sisseton, SD and Orren Pederson of Sisseton, SD; significant other, Betty Heitmann of Watertown, SD and several nieces and nephews.
LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ina Lou, and two brothers, Lee and Delbert Fisher.
