Memorial Service for Larry Wanous, 82, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. with visitation starting at 1:00 P. M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, 516 E. Cherry St., Sisseton, SD with Pastor Patrick Jenkins officiating. Organist will be Steve Eneboe and soloist is Curtis Dahl. Urnbearer will be Robert Wanous. Honorary Urnbearers will be all of Larry's grandchilren. Military rites will be provided by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50, and the Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. Inurnment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Larry passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at the Tekakwitha Living Center.

Larry was born on June 12, 1937 in Britton, SD to Robert and Menota (Denson) Wanous. He grew up on a farm and graduated from Kidder High School. He joined the Navy in June of 1955 and served until May of 1958. Larry served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He was married to Orinne Sundlie in 1959 and the couple had two children, Shane and Sherrie. Larry was married to Gayle Alinder in 1990. Gayle had two girls, Julie, and Kristi.

Larry was a talented carpenter and handyman that could make or fix anything. He was also a great cook. He cooked for many places including, Victors Supper Club in Groton which he owned along with his sister Jane, and others, he was also part owner of the Other Place which was a supper club in Britton. He cooked at the Pub, Sisseton Livestock Auction, and The Legion, and for many special occasions.

Larry lived in Osceola, WI where he served as Chief of Police and also managed and worked different places. He owned Clear Lake Resort before moving back to Sisseton. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing cards. He served on the board at The Valley View Golf Course for many years. Larry's last business was vinyl sign making for businesses and most anything that people wanted.

Larry is survived by his wife Gayle; children Shane Wanous and Sherrie Hilleson; step-children Julie Kuehn and Kristi (Mike) Tchida; three sisters Juanita (Jack) Rhode, Judy (Bob) Sundling, Jane (Dick) Sorenson; one brother Rob (Jeanne) Wanous; seven grandchildren Justin and Matthew Hilleson, Audrey Wanous, Alex (Jen) and Todd Suurmeyer, Mackenzie and Kayden Tchida; one great-granddaughter Josephine Suurmeyer; and mother-in-law Ruby Benting, and many nieces and nephews.
