Funeral Service for Kimberly Joy Amos, 51, of Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 2:00 P.m. at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, South Dakota with Rev. Vern Donnell and Gerald Heminger Jr. Officiating. Pallbearers will be Lindsay and Lenny White, Chance and Arlen Renville Jr., Clayton and Frederick Small, Michael Wiggins, and Justin Amos. Honorary Pallbearers are Lillian Wanna, Crystal Walker, Alta German, Becky RedEarth, Joyce and Jim Pickthorn, Punchy ChargingCloud, Dawn Eagle, Mary Jean Tease, Louise "Jingles" Demarrias, Cheryl Renville, Grady Renville, and Lois and Leonard Stengel. Pianists will be Billy Kohl and Mary Beth Kirk. Interment will be in the Amos Family Cemetery, Big Coulee, South Dakota. There will be a wake service on Monday, July 16, 2012 with an all night wake on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Tribal Community Center both starting at 7:30 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Kimberly Joy Amos was born on December 15, 1960 at Sisseton, SD to Charles and Clara (Small) Amos Sr. She grew up and attended school in Wilmot, SD graduating in 1979. She then attended SWCC where she received an AA in Business Management and in Carpentry. After her education she was married to Conrad Bernard and to this union two children were born. Kim worked at the SW Federal Credit Union and she also worked for the BIA for fourteen years. She was also married to Richard Dubois and to this union one child was born. Kim enjoyed collecting rocks, and caring for her houseplants. Kim was very spiritual and she enjoyed the outdoors, making many trips to Sica Hollow. Kim was selfless with her time in letting incarcerated tribal members know they were thought about, cared for, and not forgotten during all holidays, and special occasions. Kim was with Danen St. John for ten years, and they were involved in the carpentry business. She was also a big NASCAR fan and Kevin Harvick was her favorite driver. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer on February 4, 2012. Kim battled the disease until she passed away on July 14, 2012 at her home with her family at her side.
Kimberly is survived by three children, Samson Bernard of Springfield, SD, Sarah Bernard of Sisseton, SD, and Matthew Dubois of Sisseton, SD, her father Charles Amos Sr. of Peever, SD, three sisters, Caril and Jeff Schoenrock of Peever, SD, Colette White of Peever, SD, Genevieve Amos of Agency Village, SD, five brothers, Charles Amos Jr. of Peever, SD, Marlon Amos of Agency Village, SD, Gerald Amos of Peever, SD, Steven Amos of Pasadena, TX, and Daren Amos of Peever, SD, two grandchildren, Brayden Bernard and Seth White Jr. of Sisseton, SD, and adopted sister Lois Jackson of Peever, SD, adopted brother, Dennis Hopkins Jr., and a host of Aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Kimberly was preceded in death by her mother, one brother Calvin Amos Sr., one sister Rochelle Dynae Amos, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
