Kim Lawrence, 72, of Peever, SD passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at her home. Funeral Service will be Monday, February 18, 2019 at 2:00PM at the Peever Community Center in Peever, SD. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00PM-7:00PM at the Peever Community Center. Officiating is Pastor Don Lykins and Pastor Mike Owen. Music will be by Amy Currence, Josh Anderson, Steve Eneboe, and Gena Urevig. Pallbearers will be Brittany Lawrence, Alannah Lawrence, Heather Riley, Christina Anderson, Jeffrey Anderson, and Garrett Lawrence. Honorary Pallbearers are Ken Cameron, Alpha Behrns, and all of Kim's friends, family, and co-workers. Interment is at the Paha Wakan Cemetery, Peever, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Kim Carlyn Lee Johnson Lawrence was born December 8, 1946 to Sven and Dorothy (Rothgarn) Johnson in Redwing, Minnesota. She went to school in Clarkfield, Minnesota and graduated high school in May, 1964. She was baptized August 15, 1965. After high school, she attended St Paul Bible College, earning her R.N. degree and graduating in May, 1968. While attending college, she met Elden Lawrence, after mutual friends set them up on their first date, a Twins game. They were married October 17 th , 1969 before moving to Peever and starting a family. Kim had a long career as a nurse, working at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Wilmot Care Center, I.H.S., and as Roberts County Community Health Nurse. She was also a substitute teacher at Peever Elementary on occasion. She was a gifted musician, playing piano and occasionally singing for many area churches, including Peever Lutheran Church, and for many special events and funerals. She always wore a smile on her face and had an encouraging word or passage of scripture for everyone she met. She was generous, loving, and had a great faith in Jesus that showed in every aspect of her life. She enjoyed reading her Bible, playing cards with her friends and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Kim is survived by her two children, Derrick Lawrence of Peever, SD and Debbie (Joey) Anderson of Peever, SD; brother Kalen Johnson of Two Harbors, MN; sister Koko Eken; six grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; step-mother Evelyn Johnson; several step siblings.
Kim was preceded in death by her husband Elden Lawrence, parents; grandson Benjamin.
