Funeral Service for Kenneth H. Vig, 92 of Peever, South Dakota will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Peever Lutheran Church, Peever, SD with the Pastor Sheila Pohl officiating. Organist will be Kim Lawrence with special music by Janeen Kohl. Pallbearers will be Linn Vig, Joel Hortness, Harold Fryer, Marlo Anderson, Carroll "Spike" Nehls, and Kent Elliott. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Kenneth's Friends. Interment will be in the Peever Cemetery, Peever, SD with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be visitation on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to the services in the church on Thursday. Kenneth Harvey Vig was born on May 19, 1918 in rural Claire City, SD to Hans and Lisa (Lekness) Vig. Kenneth was united in marriage to Opal Saterlie on June 26, 1941 in Veblen, SD. Kenneth served in the United States Army during World War II, from February 1942 until October 24, 1945. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. They returned to Peever in 1945. He was the owner of Vig Lumber and Vig Gas and Oil in Peever. Kenneth enjoyed his winters in Texas and Arizona and enjoyed spending time with his three granddaughters, who were the joy of his life. Kenneth was a life time member of the Fort Sisseton V FW Post #3342 and a member of Peever Lutheran Church. Kenneth passed away on Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Wilmot Care Center, Wilmot, SD.
Kenneth is survived by two sons, Harold (Carol) Vig of Cave Creek, AZ and Neil (Sandy) Vig of Peever, SD; three granddaughters, Melanie Vig of Scottsdale, AZ, Lindsay (Robert) Watson of Gilbert, AZ and Kimberly Vig of Newport Beach, CA; three great grandchildren, Gabriel, Corban and Emma Watson of Gilbert, AZ; one sister-in-law, Mildred Vig of Fargo, ND, and several nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Opal, his parents, his maternal and paternal grandparents, two brothers, Thelmer and Ordin Vig, and one sister-in-law Marie Vig.
